Privacy Notice A reality TV star has opened up about being diagnosed with bowel cancer, revealing that they were made to feel “so small” after being questioned on “what was wrong” with them by a stranger. Sophie Edwards, who appeared on The Bachelor Australia in 2016, has spoken about her experience after she was diagnosed with stage 3 Rectal Adenocarcinoma in June 2022 when she was just 34 years old. Now 36, Sophie has revealed that she experienced incontinence and needed to wear an adult nappy following surgery for the disease. As a result, this led to an incident when she was playing netball in August.

While playing the sport at a venue, the TV personality went to use a disabled toilet but was questioned by another woman who accused her of “faking” her condition. “She was questioning what was wrong with me, and it just made me feel so awful,” she told Adelaide Now. “She made me feel so small like I wasn’t a human being,” she explained. “So I just left. I got into an Uber and sat in my own filth on the way home, just sobbing.” Sophie added that following the incident, she has had sacral nerve stimulation to give her some “normality”, though she admitted that she’d never been “100 per cent” the way she was before being diagnosed with cancer. Back in October 2022, Sophie spoke to FEMAIL about her diagnosis and explained how she noticed a change in her bowel habits 12 weeks before she saw a doctor. Despite no family history of the disease and sticking to a healthy lifestyle, the former The Bachelor star was given the news that she had cancer. “When you hear the word “cancer” you automatically think you’re going to die. You have no idea what path is going to show up before you,” she said. “I felt completely numb and overwhelmed, and immediately I thought of my seven-year-old son Jaxon.” Since being diagnosed with bowel cancer, Sophie has worked hard to raise awareness of the disease and has used her platform to draw attention to the signs and symptoms. Back in December, Sophie celebrated turning 36 and expressed her gratitude at doing so, adding that it was “an absolute privilege to age”. Sophie appeared on The Bachelor Australia in a bid to find love. As part of the iconic show, the mum-of-one was one of 22 eligible bachelorettes attempting to win the attention of bachelor Richie Strahan.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
