Privacy NoticeThe late Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip’s bond deepened during the coronavirus lockdown – but they also found themselves bickering, a royal insider has claimed. The pair developed a rapport reminiscent of any long-married couple, although the Queen wasn’t shy to remind him that she was no ordinary woman. On one occasion, Philip was overheard telling his wife of 73 years “Oh, do shut up, you silly woman”, the unnamed palace aide claims. Our beloved monarch allegedly responded quite firmly with: “I am not a silly woman, I am the Queen.” Throughout the pandemic’s first wave, the couple holed up at Windsor Castle, surrounded by a bubble of 20 staff members. The close-knit team earned the nickname HMS Bubble.

It was within this unique scenario that the duke would wrap his arm around his queen, bridging a closeness unseen in years, according to the Daily Mail. The palace aide said they were called to step in to wait on the royal couple due to staff shortages brought about by Covid-19 restrictions. He revealed to the newspaper: “They bickered with one another. It was sweet but so unexpected. On one occasion I heard the duke say, ‘Oh, do shut up, you silly woman’, and the Queen replied, ‘I am not a silly woman, I am the Queen’. I couldn’t believe my ears but I was told this was how they always were with one another.”, reports the Mirror. A heartwarming snap of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, offering a rare glimpse into their private lives away from royal duties, was unveiled before Philip’s funeral. The royal pair are captured in a relaxed moment during a summer getaway, soaking up the breathtaking beauty of the Scottish Highlands on the Balmoral estate.

In the picture, taken at the Coyles of Muick, a picturesque spot near the town of Ballater in Aberdeenshire, Philip and the Queen are seen comfortably lounging on the grass. The Duke is laid back on a rug, propped up on his left elbow with his hat playfully placed on his right knee. The Queen, donning a tartan skirt, blouse and cardigan, and adorned with a string of pearls, beams at the Countess of Wessex, who took the photo back in 2003.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
