Privacy NoticeThe late Queen once expressed her envy over the then Prince Charles’ lack of hair as a baby in a letter to a friend, which has recently been auctioned off. In the letter, dated April 22, 1949, addressed to “Richard”, the Queen playfully revealed her jealousy over his nephew’s ‘luxurious’ head of hair that she had seen in a photograph. At that time, the future king was only five months old and didn’t have much hair of his own. The two-page handwritten note was written on Buckingham Palace stationery. She penned: “I was so pleased to receive your letter of good wishes for my birthday – it was most kind of you to remember me. Our son is growing very fast and is already trying to sit up. He is most affable and laughs a great deal. I hope your nephew is well – I was very envious of his luxurious hair in the photograph of his christening.”

The monarch continued: “I hope Ela’s baby is going on well, too – I expect you are a busy uncle, now! It must have been a wonderful family gathering for Easter-and great fun, too! I hope we shall meet again before too long.”, reports the Mirror. The letter was simply signed ‘Elizabeth’. The letter, which was consigned by a private collector, fetched £1,600 ($2,090) at RR Auction, based in Boston, US. A spokesperson from RR Auction commented: “This is an appealing letter from Princess Elizabeth as a new mother. Her first child, Charles, was only five months old when this letter was written.”

Last month, a heartwarming letter penned by a five year old King Charles to his “dear Papa” fetched £5,700 at an auction. The young prince had written the note to Prince Philip in 1954 while the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were on a two-month Royal tour of Australia. The letter, written on Buckingham Palace stationery in block letters, read: “Dear Papa, I am longing to see you in the ship. Love from Charles.” On the reverse of the second page, a flurry of crosses symbolised kisses. This was during the Queen’s inaugural visit to Australia, with Charles and Princess Anne staying back in London. Originating from a private collection, the letter was snapped up for £5,700, fees included, at International Autograph Auctions in Malaga, Spain.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
