Privacy NoticeRoyal weddings have always been thrilling and eagerly awaited occasions, whether the bride has been the late Queen or the Princess of Wales. Everyone around the globe holds their breath to catch the first glimpse of the breathtaking wedding dress and to decipher if it carries a special message. Princess Eugenie’s wedding gown serves as a perfect example, as she became the first royal bride in decades to ditch the veil, making a significant statement. The princess tied the knot with her long-term boyfriend Jack Brooksbank at St George’s Chapel, Windsor on October 12, 2018, in front of roughly 800 guests.

Several of Queen Elizabeth II’s great-grandchildren, from Savannah and Isla Phillips to Prince George and Princess Charlotte, were chosen to participate in the wedding party. For her big day, Princess Eugenie borrowed The Greville Emerald Kokoshnik tiara from her grandmother and opted not to wear a veil, allowing her dress to make a bold statement. She chose a Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos designed dress with a low-cut back to highlight the scar running down her spine from a childhood surgery to correct scoliosis. At the age of 12, Eugenie underwent spinal surgery to insert titanium to rectify the curvature caused by scoliosis.

The princess has opened up about her personal journey in an article for the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. She revealed: “Without the care I received at the RNOH I wouldn’t look the way I do now; my back would be hunched over. And I wouldn’t be able to talk about scoliosis the way I now do, and help other children who come to me with the same problem.” “My back problems were a huge part of my life, as they would be for any 12 year old. Children can look at me now and know that the operation works. I’m living proof of the ways in which the hospital can change people’s lives.”

In 2021, she was named the royal patron of Scoliosis Association UK. It was later confirmed that the wedding, including the dress and flowers, as well as the two subsequent parties, were privately funded by the bride’s parents. Eugenie and Jack welcomed their first child, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, in early 2021. He was named after two of his five-times great-grandfathers, as well as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Little August made his public debut at the Platinum Jubilee Pageant in June, looking adorable in a blue Union Jack jumper. The family grew once again in May 2023 with the birth of the couple’s second son, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank.

The family made a move to Portugal after it was announced they’d be dividing their time between the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club, just south of Lisbon, and London. This big move comes as Jack takes on a new role with billionaire real estate mogul Mike Meldman, who happens to be friends with George Clooney. Jack’s job is said to involve sales, marketing, and promotion for the luxury resort, which is in the midst of developing 300 plush homes. The Telegraph reported that when the couple are in the UK, they will use Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace as their base rather than their former Windsor home of Frogmore Cottage. A source told the newspaper: “Jack is now working for Mike Meldman and they are splitting their time between Portugal and London.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
