Privacy Notice It’s been 27 years since the tragic death of Princess Diana, following a fatal car crash in Paris that sent the world into mourning. On her death anniversary, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond looks back on Diana’s feelings towards Charles and Camilla, expressed in a private conversation with Jennie, and whether she thinks she would have tied the knot again, should she have lived. “I suspect Diana would have married again if she had lived,” Jennie exclusively tells OK! “I don’t know who she would have married or where she would be living, but if she had found new happiness, it would have eased the way for Charles and Camilla.

The former BBC royal correspondent then went on to explain what Diana had told her in one of their private conversations: “At the end of her life, she had accepted that Charles and Camilla were very much in love. She told me in one of our private conversations that she understood that his love for Camilla was stronger than any marriage he might have made to anyone else. But she still didn’t see any reason for them to take the extra step of getting married. “However, I think she would have accepted it in the end, especially if she had remarried herself. I suspect she would still be involved in the charity work which she found so very life affirming. And perhaps she would have had more children…she certainly hadn’t ruled that out when we talked about it.”

Charles and Camilla tied the knot in April 2005, two months after announcing his engagement. The pair had lived together in Clarence House since 2003, and had their civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall. Jennie also believes that the rift between Diana’s sons, Prince William and Prince Harry would never have ‘got so deep’ had Diana been alive. She also comments on how she would have supported Harry and Meghan Markle. “I think she would also have done her best to support Harry and Meghan and would have had a great deal of sympathy with their decision to make a life outside the Palace walls. After all….she had paved the way for that. “If Diana were still here, I doubt if the rift between her sons would ever have got so deep. She would have found a way to make them understand one another and resolve their differences. And that’s another great sadness about the tragedy that led to her death,” she concludes.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
