Privacy NoticeEarl Spencer has revealed he’s in a new romance with the “brilliant archaeologist” Cat Jarman. Charles, who is the brother of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, shared that they first crossed paths when Dr Jarman came to excavate a Roman villa on his estate. The duo teamed up with Reverend Richard Coles and became hosts of the popular history podcast, The Rabbit Hole Detectives, which led them to pen a trivia book as a part of the series. Chatting with Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley on ITV’s Good Morning Britain on Tuesday morning, 15 October, Earl Spencer said: “Cat Jarman, who is my partner now actually. She’s a brilliant archaeologist.”

“It sounds like an Alan Partridge title, but she is Nordic Person of 2024, which is usually handed out to someone like Sven-Goran Eriksson or a composer to be Nordic Person of the Year.” Discussing their unique meeting, he continued: “Well, first of all I met her because we both had the same publisher but secondly, I know this sounds rather bizarre but she came to dig up a Roman villa on some land I’ve got.” He explained how life weaved them closer after co-host Richard Coles suffered a bereavement: “Richard, Cat and I would end up together and Richard had been recently bereaved so was semi living with me and the three of us would just talk and talk and talk.”

“Cat said ‘Let’s do a podcast’ and out of the podcast came the book.” Back in June, Charles announced he was getting a divorce, after 13 years of marriage. He “shared the immensely sad” news that he had separated from Karen Gordon, the Countess of Spencer, who he shares a 12-year-old daughter with. He told the Mail on Sunday: “I just want to devote myself to all my children, and to my grandchildren, and I wish Karen every happiness in the future.” Also during his appearance on GMB today, he spoke of his late sister, Princess Diana, and his frequent visits to her resting place at his ancestral home, Althorp House: “Every day people tell me what an inspiration she was and how much they miss her, what they did the day she died,” he remarked.

The beloved Princess Diana, mother to both Prince William and Prince Harry, tragically died at the age of 36 in a Paris car accident on August 31, 1997. Remembering his sister, the Earl stated, “Like everyone else you sort of get used to it (grief) without it ever going away. I go pretty much every day there,” acknowledging the enduring nature of his loss.
