Privacy NoticePrincess Diana tragically passed away 27 years ago, following a devastating car crash in Paris in 1997. The royal left behind sons Prince William and Prince Harry, who she shared with King Charles. Her sons have continued to honour their late mother’s legacy at any opportunity, and have also given insights into what Diana was like as a parent. The Princess was known for being a hands-on parent, ensuring her two sons’ childhoods were as normal as they could be despite being members of the Royal Family. They went on day trips to theme parks, ate fast food, went on the bus and dressed like any normal children whenever possible, earning Diana huge praise. She also kept things fun for William and Harry, as it was well-known that Diana was the prankster of the family.

Diana would send her eldest son cheeky gifts at school

William previously shared one of the pranks his mother played on him, revealing that she would send him fun gifts while he was at school. The future King spoke about his late mother in the documentary, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, and how she would try and make him laugh while was supposed to be studying. He said: “She was a massive card writer and she loved the rudest cards you could imagine. I would be at school and I’d get a card from my mother. Usually, she found something you know, very embarrassing, very funny card, and then sort of written very nice stuff inside. But I didn’t open it in case teachers or anyone else in the class had seen it. She was very informal and really enjoyed the laughter and the fun.”

Diana also arranged a very special surprise for her eldest son when he was only a teenager, which left him red-faced. The memorable moment is definitely one William won’t forget, and he once shared the story in an interview to mark the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death. Recalling the hilarious moment, William said: “Just outside this room where we are now, she organised when I came home from school to have Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell waiting at the top of the stairs. I was probably a 12 or 13 year old boy who had posters of them on his wall. And I went bright red and didn’t know quite what to say and sort of fumbled and I think I pretty much fell down the stairs on the way up!”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
