Privacy NoticeOver the summer break, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis had a blast spending quality time with their parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton. During term-time, the Royal children attend Lambrook School in Berkshire. Despite their Royal status, a source has claimed that the children are treated just like any other student once they step through the school gates. This is a sentiment fully backed by Kate and William, who are eager for their children to have as ‘normal’ a childhood as possible. As a result, Charlotte goes by a different name at school. Her full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, and her official title is Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge. Both of these are quite a mouthful, and it’s unlikely that her classmates or teachers would use them. So, she follows the tradition of her older brother and other family members by using her parents’ title as her surname. Hence, she is known as Charlotte Cambridge, according to the Mirror. George, formally known as George Alexander Louis, His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge, is commonly referred to as George Cambridge. This naming style was also adopted by his father William and uncle Harry, who used their father Charles’ title – Wales – as their surname during school and military careers.

In a truly adorable revelation, Prince William once let slip Princess Charlotte’s pet name during an intimate family moment caught on camera at the Royal Chelsea Flower Show in 2019. Deviating from her formal title, he tenderly called out “Mignonette”, which charmingly means “small, sweet, and delicate” or simply “cute” in French. Contrastingly, Kate has a different affectionate term for their daughter; dubbed ‘Lottie’. This sweet fact came to light when Kate chatted with a mother named Laura-Ann and her young son during a 2019 Royal visit to Northern Ireland. Recounting their interaction on Instagram, Laura-Ann revealed the Duchess’s casual reference to Princess Charlotte: “She asked how old Bertie is, and I said he is four and she said, ‘Oh, he’s the same age as Lottie.’ She calls her Lottie!”

Princess Charlotte isn’t the only member of the Royal Family who has a family nickname. Her big brother’s nickname was coined by his classmates at school as they are said to have called him ‘PG’ – owing to his initials. This nickname is also said to have spread to the Wales household, with his parents reportedly calling him both ‘PG’ and ‘Tips’ – after the famous British tea brand, PG Tips. Whereas her other relatives are known by names ranging from Stavros, Tungsten, Squeak, Gaga, Wombat, Gan Gan and Gary. You may wonder who ‘Gary’ is referring to, but you need to look no further than the late Queen.
The Prince of Wales also has a cute nickname for Charlotte
According to Daily Mail , while a young Prince William was playing at Buckingham Palace, he took a little trip and called out for help. But instead of shouting for ‘Granny’, he called for ‘Gary’- much to the confusion of everyone present.
