Privacy NoticePrincess Anne warned younger royals against ‘trying to reinvent the wheel’ as she candidly shared her thoughts on philanthropy. Speaking to Vanity Fair in 2020, the diligent royal, who has over 300 charitable engagements under her belt, suggested the new generation may not grasp the full extent of her past efforts. She said: “I don’t think this younger generation probably understands what I was doing in the past and It’s often true, isn’t it?” Opening up about her role in the Royal Family, Anne revealed concerns over attempts to update the monarchy’s traditional approach to charity work. She mentioned this sometimes led to overlooking past experiences, noting: “You don’t necessarily look at the previous generations and say, ‘Oh, you did that? Or, you went there?'” Turning 74 today (Thursday, August 15), the Princess Royal is reflecting on the changing tides within the family. Despite the push for innovation by the younger royals, she believes they might need to consider the tried-and-tested methods.

You may need to go back to basics,” reports the Mirror. Her remarks also came in the wake of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping down from frontline Royal duties and relocating to the USA. In their groundbreaking statement, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle expressed their intention to carve out a progressive new role within the institution of the monarchy, stating: “We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.” They added, “It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to the Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.”
