Privacy Notice Prince William reportedly “sought assurances” that Meghan Markle wouldn’t be wearing any of Princess Diana’s jewellery for her wedding to Prince Harry, amid concerns about their relationship, according to a shocking new book. Rumours have been swirling for some time that William was eager for his brother, Prince Harry, to take things slow when he first started seeing former Suits actress Meghan in 2016. In his own contentious memoir, Spare Harry, he recalls significant tension with his brother during the planning of his wedding. Now, in a fresh book titled Catherine, The Princess Of Wales: The Biography, author Robert Jobson alleges that the relationship between the two brothers deteriorated further before the 2018 wedding – with William seeking reassurances from their grandmother, the Queen, that Harry’s bride-to-be would not wear their late mother’s jewellery – despite his wife Kate possessing Diana’s stunning sapphire engagement ring.

As serialised in The Mail on Sunday, the book details how tensions escalated among the royals as Harry and Meghan’s wedding approached. As Harry himself recounted in his book Spare, Meghan and Kate had an uncomfortable encounter over lip gloss several months before the wedding, and things reached a boiling point between the two women over bridesmaid dresses. In his latest book, the author reveals: “By the time William was confirmed as best man, the relationship had worsened. I have been told that still concerned about the match, he’d sought assurances from the Queen that Harry’s bride would not be wearing any of Princess Diana’s jewellery, even though his own wife was allowed to wear it. Despite sharp digs and thin skins on both sides, the wedding at Windsor in May 2018 was a spectacular success. In public, the Royal Family were all smiles, though privately they were at daggers drawn,” reports the Mirror. OK! has reached out to Prince William’s representatives for comment.

While Meghan didn’t don any of Diana’s jewels for the wedding ceremony, she famously sported her aquamarine cocktail ring at the evening reception, paired with her Stella McCartney halterneck dress. Over the years, Meghan has also been seen wearing several of Diana’s pieces including a Cartier bracelet and butterfly earrings. Elsewhere in the extract, it’s suggested that William and Kate felt the need to “unconsciously raise their game” after Harry and Meghan received a wave of positive press following their engagement announcement. The author alleges that William was somewhat “put out” when Harry and Meghan were scheduled for a morning engagement in Cardiff in January 2018, which clashed with one of his own. The book reveals: “Competitive by nature, even when it comes to media coverage, he [William] chose that same afternoon to debut a new and dramatic buzz-cut during a visit to a London hospital.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
