Privacy NoticeMany members of the Royal Family have headed to Scotland for their annual summer getaway at Balmoral, including the King and Queen, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales. The holiday has become a tradition among senior royals over the years, giving them chance to unwind and spend quality time together. While the trip to Scottish Highlands provides a chance to relax, it also no doubt proposes an opportunity to discuss what’s been going on among the Royals and what the future looks like for the family. With media reports claiming there could be “summit” at Balmoral, it seems likely that King Charles, 75, could initiate much needed discussions about the future of the Royal Family. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has exclusively spoken to OK! about the possibility, revealing it would be “slightly odd” for the royals to come together and not discuss what’s been going on.

“I have no information that there is going to be a royal summit at Balmoral. But it would be slightly odd if the family were all together for once and didn’t mull over what has happened and how they proceed in the future,” Jennie exclusively told OK! She went on to reveal that back in the 1990s, formal discussions were more frequent at Balmoral. Jennie continued: “Back in the 90s there was a more formal setup when senior royals discussed strategy in a forum known as The Way Ahead Group. Its aim was the ensure that the monarchy stayed relevant to the modern age.” Similar conversations could take place at Balmoral this summer, especially as Prince William is “preoccupied” with the “keeping the monarchy relevant”. However, the Royals do like to relax on holiday like the rest of us.

“There may be some similar discussions at Balmoral, William is certainly preoccupied with keeping the monarchy relevant, but essentially this is a holiday for the royals, a time to stop worrying about everything and – like other families on holiday – just breathe in the fresh air, relax and enjoy one another’s company,” Jennie added. King Charles and Queen Camilla travelled to Scotland earlier this week, shortly followed by Princess Anne. The Prince and Princess of Wales are due to arrive with their three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – marking Kate’s first trip away since her cancer diagnosis.
