Privacy NoticePrince William is reportedly seething over comments made by Prince Harry in a recent television interview, sources have claimed. The Duke of Sussex, 39, has recently surfaced on the small screen not once, but twice in quick succession, initially in the ITV documentary Tabloids on Trial and then again with Meghan Markle, 43, in a CBS special over the weekend. During his conversation with journalist Rebecca Barry in Tabloids on Trial, Harry claimed that his legal battles with the British press have been “central” to the strain in Royal relations. He also referenced his late mother Princess Diana, saying: “There’s evidence to suggest that [my mother] was being hacked in the mid-90s, probably one of the first people to be hacked. And yet still today, the tabloid press very much enjoy painting her as being paranoid. But she wasn’t paranoid.”

However, according to sources speaking to Australian publication New Idea, William is incensed by his brother’s continued mention of Diana. “William is spitting mad that Harry would reference this again,” one source said. “He’s so fed up with [the Sussexes] cashing in on Diana’s death.” The source added: “Harry just won’t move on and it appears that since marrying Meghan, the obsession with his mother has only intensified. William’s getting to the point where he’s washing his hands of Harry for good.” This apparent breach comes despite a mutual agreement made back in 2017 where both brothers vowed to observe a silence regarding their mothers passing; a commitment that Harry appears to have sidestepped since abdicating his senior Royal duties.

In a heartfelt ITV interview marking the 20th anniversary of their mother’s death, Prince William expressed: “We won’t be doing this again we won’t speak as openly or publicly about her again, because we feel hopefully this film will provide the other side from close family friends you might not have heard before, from those who knew her best and from those who want to protect her memory, and want to remind people of the person that she was.” According to New Idea, tensions are high as William reportedly feels he no longer “recognises” his brother Harry due to his recent decisions, which are said to be exacerbating Royal Family strains. The publication also suggested that while William is open to the idea of reconciliation with Harry in the future, there’s a current lack of trust on his part. The ITV chat also shed light on Harry’s ongoing battles with the British press. In a significant legal victory in February, Harry received £140,600 in damages from Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) after alleging that they published information about him obtained through phone hacking and other illicit activities.

In a statement, an MGN spokesperson said: “We welcomed the judgement in December 2023 that gave the business the necessary clarity to move forward from events that took place many years ago. “Where historical wrongdoing took place, we apologise unreservedly, have taken full responsibility and paid compensation.” Harry has candidly discussed the “differences” with his brother Prince William in various TV interviews. In his tell-all book Spare, he even claimed they had a physical fight that resulted in Harry needing “stitches”. In a recent CBS interview, Harry and Meghan expressed their commitment to shielding their children, Archie and Lilibet, from harmful online influences. “Our kids are young – they’re 3 and 5. They’re amazing,” shared Meghan. “But all you want to do as parents is protect them.” “We can see what’s happening in the online space, and we know there’s a lot of work to be done there. We’re just happy to be part of creating positive change,” she added. Harry emphasised the role of parents in today’s digital age, saying: “At this point, we’ve got to the stage where almost every parent needs to be a first responder. And even the best first responders in the world wouldn’t be able to tell the signs of possible suicide. That is the terrifying piece of this.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
