Privacy NoticeThe Prince of Wales, who is not only the President of the Football Association but also a die-hard football fan, has rallied support for England ahead of the nail-biting Euro 2024 final that is taking place on Sunday 14 July. In a heartfelt social media post on Saturday, he expressed his pride and sent a spirited message to the team: “We are so proud of you all England, just one last push to finish the job!” Not one to hide his excitement, he added, “Go out there and show the world what you’re made of. We believe. W.” Delighted by England’s progress throughout the tournament, Prince William was spotted at the quarter-final victory over Switzerland and during the Denmark group-stage game, where he was amongst the lively crowd cheering his country on. His commendations didn’t stop there – after England secured their spot in the final with a win over the Netherlands, Prince William took to his social media again to congratulate them, especially Ollie Watkins for his amazing late goal, saying: “What a beauty, Ollie! Congratulations England! #EURO2024 Finalists. W.”

Meanwhile, King Charles III also extended his praise and a touch of royal humour to the team, advising them to clinch the victory in a smoother fashion than their nerve-wracking semi-final. In his message sending the Royal Family’s “very best wishes” and “warmest congratulations,” the King suggested: “If I may encourage you to secure victory before the need for any last minute wonder-goals or another penalties drama, I am sure the stresses on the nation’s collective heart rate and blood pressure would be greatly alleviated!” Rounding off with his fatherly support, he cheered, “Good luck, England.” Gareth Southgate has expressed his intense desire to clinch a victory, stating: “I want to win so much on Sunday it hurts,” while Sir Keir Starmer hinted at nationwide festivities, suggesting there would be some kind of celebration if England triumphs in their first major men’s football tournament since 1966, and their first ever final on foreign soil.

The Prime Minister, set to be in the stands for the match, has steered clear of promising an extra bank holiday in the event of an English triumph, explaining that he didn’t want to “jinx anything” by assuming the outcome. In anticipation of the big game, pubs and bars have been given the green light to extend their opening hours until 1am on Sunday night. While the game starts at 8pm, play could go on until 11pm if there is extra time and penalties. Some supermarkets, including Lidl, said it would open its stores an hour late on Monday to allow celebrating or commiserating staff a lie in, and many schools have announced they will allow a “soft start” on Monday morning, allowing parents to bring their children in late if they have let them stay up to watch the match the night before.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
