Privacy NoticeThe Prince of Wales has joined the crowds in Germany who are supporting England in their quarter final European Championships match against Switzerland on Saturday 6 July. Prince William arrived at the ESPRIT arena in Dusseldorf to watch the match that will determine whether the England team will continue onto the semi finals next week. He was among a crowd of 50,000 football fans as he was seen grinning before the match kicked off, before taking part in the National Anthem. William regularly attends big football matches in his capacity as president of the Football Association, the governing body of soccer in England and Wales, and in May he attended the FA Cup final match between Manchester United and Manchester City, along with his 10 year old son Prince George. He was also in the stands for England’s 1-1 draw with Denmark in Frankfurt during the group stages of the Euros.

The Prince also shared his support earlier in the Euros, after England’s nerve-shredding match against Slovakia on Monday 1 July. After England won, following Jude Bellingham’s last minute overhead kick and Harry Kane’s extra time goal, Prince William wrote on the official Prince and Princess of Wales account on X: “Emotional rollercoaster! Let’s go England!” The royal added with his customary positivity: “Quarter finals here we come! W.”

One follower replied: “We can all imagine Prince William yelling Let’s go England!” Another told him: “WHAT A GAME!!! I can imagine how much you must have celebrated the goals.” He will now be hoping Harry Kane and his team mates can go one step further and progress to the semi final against either Holland or Turkey in Dortmund next Wednesday, 10 July. To do that, the team have to beat Switzerland who beat the title holders Italy 2-0 to reach the quarter finals. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, known as an avid football fan, also showed his support on Saturday 6 July, posting on X: “You’ve got this England.” Before the start of the Euros, Prince William visited the England squad training ground at St George’s Park in Burton-upon-Trent before the team flew out to Germany and passed on some advice from his youngest son, Prince Louis. He told the team: “Guys, while I was on the way here, I was thinking what shall I say. And I thought what can I offer as you are all an experienced team here with Gareth and I was thinking what could I say to help before you went away?” “I was on the school run this morning with the children and I said ‘what shall I say to the England team today’. The best bit of advice I got was to eat twice the amount you would normally eat. And I now have visions of all of you running around with massive tummies and getting stitches on the pitch.
