Privacy Notice In a move that’s sure to warm anyone’s heart, Prince Harry went all out for his nephew Prince Louis ‘ christening back in July 2018, spending a whopping £8,000 on an incredible gift. The Duke of Sussex chose a particularly meaningful present and paid a princely sum for a first edition of A.A. Milne’s classic, Winnie the Pooh from 1926, inspired by cherished memories he had with his mother Princess Diana, who adored the ritual of reading timeless tales. Embroiled with nostalgia, Harry hoped to begin a small but special library of first editions for his niece and nephews Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis to treasure as they grow up. According to the Express, a friend said: “One of Harry’s happiest childhood memories was being read a bedtime story by his mother. She loved all the old classics and Harry had the brilliant idea of starting a little library of first editions for Louis, Charlotte and George to enjoy as they get older.”

Despite eyeing a £24,000 copy of Lewis Carrolls Through The Looking Glass, Prince Harry instead opted for the more child-friendly Winnie-The-Pooh as he thought it would be the perfect inaugural addition to their mini-library. They continued: “He originally wanted to get Lewis Carroll’s Through The Looking Glass, which was on sale for £24,000, but decided Winnie-The-Pooh would be more suitable. Robinson Crusoe was William’s favourite book, but Harry loved all things A.A. Milne.” Harry reportedly snapped up one of the initial batch of 3,000 copies from Winnie the Poohs debut, almost hitting its centenary. This thoughtful keepsake was then bestowed upon Prince Louis at his christening, held on July 9, 2018 at St James’s Palace, an occasion attended by both Harry and Meghan Markle.

In a promotional interview for his upcoming 2023 memoir, Spare, Prince Harry voiced his concerns for other ‘spares’ in the Royal Family, particularly his niece and nephew, Charlotte and Louis. Ingrid Seward, a Royal author and editor of Majesty magazine, warned Harry about discussing the Royal children, calling it a “dangerous road to go down”. Speaking to The Sun, she advised: “It is a very dangerous road to go down, to start talking about other people’s children.” In conversation with The Telegraph’s Bryony Gordon, Harry revealed his desire to “fix things” and shared his fears for his niece and nephew. He stated: “As I know full well, within my family, if it’s not us, it’s going to be someone else.” He further explained: “And though William and I have talked about it once or twice, and he has made it very clear to me that his kids are not my responsibility, I still feel a responsibility knowing that out of those three children, at least one will end up like me, the spare. And that hurts, that worries me.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
