Privacy Notice Prince Harry would “want to be there to support” his family at the funeral of his uncle Robert Fellowes, though “it’s unlikely” that he will attend, a royal expert has claimed. Earlier this month it was revealed that Lord Robert Fellowes, who was Princess Diana’s brother-in-law, had died at the age of 82. As the husband of Princess Diana’s sister Lady Jane, he was the uncle of Prince William and Harry. However, as Prince Harry’s team must give 28 days notice ahead of visiting the UK, it’s been reported that the 39 year old may not be able to attend the funeral later this week.

Speaking exclusively to OK!, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond claimed that the Duke Of Sussex is likely to want to attend the funeral of his Uncle, though his relationship with Prince William could lead to “awkwardness” if both brothers were to attend. “Well, we’ve already seen that Harry can return to the UK at extremely short notice, despite the 28 day requirement. Namely, his sudden arrival after Charles’ cancer diagnosis. So I am sure an exception could be made if Harry wants to attend the funeral,” Jennie explained. “He has remained close to the Spencer side of the family and I think he would probably want to be there to support his aunt. But, obviously, if William is there as well, that’s going to make for all sorts of awkwardness and divert attention from the purpose of the day which is to give Lord Fellowes a dignified farewell.”

As a result, Jennie added that while she believed it was “unlikely” that Prince Harry would attend the send off, his aunt Lady Jane Fellowes would “understand” his decision to not come. “So, on balance, I think it’s unlikely he will attend and I think Jane will understand,” she added. The claims come after royal fans took to social media to express their condolences over the tragic news of Lord Fellowes’ passing. “Robert & Jane Fellowes were part of the late Queen’s inner circle, even being invited to ride in the royal procession at Ascot in the last years of the reign. This showed that the Spencers – contrary to popular thinking – continued their ever good relationship with the RF. RIP,” wrote one.

“I was saddened last night to learn of the death of Robert, the Baron Fellowes, aged, 82 on Sunday. He was uncle to Prince William and a great friend of the Royal Family. Married to Lady Jane Spencer, Diana’s sister, he was better known as Private Secretary to The Queen in the 90s,” another added. Lord Fellowes and Lady Jane tied the knot on April 20, 1978 and shared three children – Laura, Alexander and Eleanor – together.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
