Privacy NoticePrince Harry has been pictured smiling after returning to the UK to attend the WellChild Awards to celebrate the achievements and resilience of seriously ill youngsters and their families. Harry is attending the WellChild awards ceremony in London in his role as the charity’s patron, a position he has held for more than 15 years. The duke, 40, looked relaxed as he began one of only a handful of events he now stages in the UK, following his move to America with wife Meghan Markle. The pair now have two children – Archie, five, and Lilibet, three – and reside in the celebrity enclave of Montecito in California. In past years, Harry has been joined by wife Meghan, but travelled alone to London this time.

While he is back in the UK, a meeting between Harry and his father King Charles is reportedly ‘unlikely’. The King is believed to be spending time at his Balmoral home and it is thought he has not seen Harry since the duke rushed to his father’s side after Charles’s cancer diagnosis was announced in February. Harry’s visit also raises questions about whether he and his estranged brother, Prince William, will see each other. The pair did not talk to one another when they both attended the funeral of their late uncle Lord Robert Fellowes, husband of Princess Diana’s sister Lady Jane Fellowes, in August. Despite their strained relationship, William and his wife Kate Middleton did publicly wish Harry a happy 40th birthday in a message on social media. They shared an earlier post from the royal family on X, formerly Twitter, and added their own message, which read: “Wishing a Happy 40th Birthday to The Duke of Sussex!”

The WellChild awards celebrate the inspiring qualities of some of the country’s seriously ill young people and the dedication of those who keep them healthy and happy, including health, social care and education professionals. Harry regularly attends the annual event hosted by WellChild, the national charity which provides a nationwide network of nurses, home makeover projects and family support programmes. Prior to his UK return, Harry jetted off to New York on a high-profile solo trip. “We have seen the old Harry again during recent events he’s attended in the UK and now in New York,” former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond exclusively told OK! “He is brilliant with the people he meets, especially the children, and I think it shows the family back home that he is still determined to continue his kind of service without all the royal trappings. If he wants to use his platform to do good, then we should applaud him for it.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
