Privacy NoticePrince Harry seems to be mirroring some of the “same mistakes” that King Charles made with Diana, Princess of Wales, according to a royal commentator. Back in the turbulent 90s, after their separation, King Charles faced allegations of involving Princes William and Harry in the struggles with Diana. Now, years later, it’s been two years since the monarch has seen his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, with no apparent plans for a reunion, according to those familiar with royal matters. The ties between Harry and the Royal Family appear to be weakening as time goes by, especially since Harry and Meghan relocated to the US post their royal exit at the start of 2020. Rumours suggest that the communication between King Charles and Harry is virtually non-existent at this point.

Royal insiders have noted that discussions have ceased, with the ongoing troubles only serving to exacerbate their estrangement. Although there was some hope of reconciliation after Harry rushed to the UK upon learning of Charles’ cancer diagnosis, those prospects seem bleak now. Tom Quinn, the author behind Scandals of the Royal Palaces: An Intimate Memoir of Royals Behaving Badly, pointed out that this pattern of behaviour isn’t new. Reportedly, using children as leverage has not been received well within royal circles, prompting disapproval from the King, reports the Mirror. The author revealed: “His desire to punish his father for not apologising for the past has become obsessive and it is ironic that he is now using his children in the battle with his father just as King Charles and Diana used William and Harry in their battles. Despite Harry’s attacks on the Royal Family his father has avoided responding by attacking his son publicly, but privately King Charles is furious.”

“So much so that he is now refusing to take calls from his son. Charles believes Harry should let bygones be bygones for the sake of Archie and Lilibet, but he senses that access to the children is being used as a bargaining chip and that, in Charles’ view, is unforgivable.” There was a glimmer of hope that the royal duo were beginning to mend their relationship, particularly after they met when Harry rushed back to the UK following the news that Charles had been diagnosed with cancer. However, weeks later when Harry returned to the UK for the 10th anniversary service of the Invictus Games at St Paul’s Cathedral, there was no meeting between the two – with Harry suggesting his dad was too busy to arrange a meeting.

However, insiders close to the Duke have now claimed that Harry’s attempts to contact his father are going unanswered as he tries to discuss his security arrangements. The 39 year old has been caught up in an ongoing dispute over his security when he visits the UK, having automatically lost his right to police protection when he left the country four years ago. In February, the Duke of Sussex faced a setback when he lost his High Court challenge against the decision to reduce his taxpayer-funded police protection, following his step back from royal duties. Despite his plans to appeal this decision, experts predict that he will be attending the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham solo.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
