Privacy Notice Prince Andrew has allegedly been given an ultimatum regarding his residence at Windsor’s Royal Lodge. According to reports, Prince Andrew could relocate to a smaller property, such as Frogmore Cottage – the home once lived in by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – with sources calling the pressure to move Prince Andrew, 64, out of the 30-room house the ‘Siege of Royal Lodge’. Speaking to OK!, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has spoken about possible reactions to the potential move as well as Prince Andrew’s life at Royal Lodge. “I really don’t think that the family trouble themselves any longer with how Harry might react to any decision,” she said.

“The King knows that having a disgraced Duke idling his time away in a 30 room mansion that requires up to half a million pounds of upkeep every year and something like £2 million in security costs to keep him there looks bad.” Prince Andrew has lived at the house in Windsor Great Park for more than 20 years, and he currently resides there with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. “Andrew seems to spend most of his time either riding around the huge estate on horseback or reportedly sitting in front of a big screen watching live coverage of planes landing and taking off,” Jennie added.

“It’s not a good look. So the obvious answer is to persuade him to move to the vacant Frogmore Cottage which has been magnificently refurbished for £2.4 million – which of course Harry and Meghan finally repaid.” After stepping back from royal duties almost five years ago, Prince Andrew’s police protection was withdrawn following a Home Office review. Now a private security team safeguards him and is funded by the King’s personal fortune.

“It seems like a perfectly sensible and generous offer by the King to continue to pay the costs for his brother. The security would presumably be less at Frogmore because it is much closer to Windsor and within the security cordon already in place around the castle and its environs. It’s time this grand old Duke of York marched down the hill to a property he can afford!,” explained Jennie. The insight comes as an interview involving Prince Andrew is set to be brought to life in a new Prime Video drama. In 2019 he was interviewed by Emily Maitlis for Newsnight and now it is the subject of the three-part drama, A Very Royal Scandal.
