Privacy NoticePrince Andrew is reportedly set to remain at Royal Lodge even after King Charles has stopped private funding for his hefty security detail. Insiders have revealed to the Express that the Duke of York won’t be using taxpayer money to fund his security at Royal Lodge, a stance that will persist once his private security team departs in October. A source disclosed to the publication that Prince Andrew has chosen a “mobile security” solution to cut down on costs while still ensuring the property is well-protected. “The only reason the private security team has been discontinued is due to costs,” the insider explained. “There was a proposal put forward for when this contract comes to an end in October but it was too high.” The conversation shifted towards employing a mobile security team which guarantees that Royal Lodge remains safeguarded with continuous patrols and an on-call team. The source continued: “”A new security system will also be fitted inside the property. The costs are much lower and they will not be covered by the taxpayer.

“The Windsor estate also has a number of other royal residences and there is a constant police presence in the area. Although they are not officially assigned to Andrew, they will respond if there is a serious issue.” Buckingham Palace has declined to comment after OK! reached out. Andrew has been stubbornly staying put in the 30-bedroom Windsor property, estimated to be worth a whopping £30million, despite being offered Frogmore Cottage nearby, which had a £2.4million makeover in 2019. The Royal has been finding it tough to maintain Royal Lodge as he’s obligated to “repair, renew, uphold, clean and keep in repair and, where necessary, rebuild” the mansion, as per the 75-year lease agreement given to him in 2003 by the Crown Estate.

The lease also states that the mansion’s walls must be repainted every five years “with two coats of paint”. Meanwhile, as for the inside, the Duke is obliged to “paint with at least two coats of paint and to paper, polish, decorate and otherwise appropriately treat” every seven years, starting from 2010. Earlier this month, The Express reported that the Duke of York was set for a serene summer holiday at his late mother’s Balmoral cottage alongside his former wife Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. “Andrew has hardly left Royal Lodge since Christmas so he’s very much looking forward to getting away with the rest of the family at Balmoral,” a source told the publication.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
