Privacy NoticePhillip Schofield is ‘keeping up a family tradition’ as he breaks his social media silence following the death of his beloved mum. The former This Morning star, 62, shared the tragic news this week that his ‘magnificent mum’ Pat had passed away, and he has since been coming to terms with the loss. Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, 16 October, for the first time since announcing his mum’s death, Phillip shared a photo of a box of fish and chips while in the car. It showed a drizzly day by the coast with views of the ocean and cliffs nearby as Phillip seemingly enjoyed the dish from the comfort of his car.

He added the caption: “Keeping up the family tradition. Flounders fish on the headland.” The 62 year old is thought to be in Cornwall, where his mum lived, and which is where Phillip fled to escape the spotlight when his “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger male colleague emerged last year. When sharing the news of his mum’s passing, Phillip paid a special thanks to the Treliske A&E department in Truro, Cornwall who had cared for her. In a heartbreaking statement on Monday, 1 October, Phillip wrote on Instagram: “Today, at 3pm and after a heartbreaking weekend, my magnificent mum decided it was time to go to her beloved Brian. “Over three days, we held her, loved her, hugged her and said everything that needed to be said. She was calm, peaceful, beautiful and dignified. I will forever be proud and privileged that she was my mum.” He added: “Our eternal thanks to the paramedics, Treliske AandE and Critical Care team who have been, in the past and this weekend, my mum’s and our angels. Your love and care has been our saviour.” Phillip added another caption which read: “I love you mum, forever.” While he didn’t reveal the cause of her death, Phillip had previously opened up about his mother’s health struggles during his stint on Channel 5’s Cast Away last month.

Despite cutting ties with his brother Timothy, 54, after his conviction and subsequent 12-year prison sentence for sexually abusing a teenager, Phillip recalled how the family came together when Timothy and their mother, Pat, were both found to have Type 1 diabetes within half a year of each other. In a candid conversation with Health Awareness, Phillip revealed: “My brother and mother are both Type 1 diabetics and have been for the last 25 years, so it is something that as a family we are very used to.” He also added: “My brother was first to be diagnosed and he had an unquenchable thirst for fizzy drink, which was very unlike him. That continued for a few days, he was acting completely out of character. So we took him to the doctors and he was very quickly diagnosed. Then six months later my mum was diagnosed in the same way.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
