Privacy Notice Despite battling through the pain of three broken ribs, reality TV star Pete Wicks is determined not to quit Strictly Come Dancing. The 36 year old ex-TOWIE heartthrob sustained the injuries on last year’s Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. Filming for the sheer endurance test took place in New Zealand in July 2023, marking Pete’s second bout with the intensive SAS selection process. His previous attempt ended abruptly when a rib fracture forced him out of the show in 2022. Pete’s initial injury was the result of a terrifying stunt gone awry, involving a helicopter leap into a lake that left him unconscious and face down in the water, leading to multiple broken bones.

Nonetheless, thanks to the prompt response from the programme’s former special forces crew and safety officers, he was saved in time. Although this injury lingers, Pete is unshaken in his dedication. He’s pushing through, eager to perfect his dance routines on Strictly. Earlier this month, his participation in the beloved dance contest was officially announced. Upon sharing the news on Kiss FM, Pete admitted that he is both “excited and absolutely petrified”. Sign up to OK!’s daily newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

On his podcast Staying Relevant, Pete confided about his concerns regarding the strain on his ribs during the rigorous BBC show rehearsals. Pete confessed: ‘I’m 36, and I haven’t been to a gym in eight years. I broke three ribs (in SAS) and my ribs are still broken, which is going to be a pain. “I feel sorry for whoever my partner is. I have an issue with having to get things right, so I know what people say – when they do these things – that you can practise as much as you want. “It’s the worst thing that you can say to someone like me because I will have that poor girl there for 15 hours a day. Literally. I’ll be saying, ‘We can just sleep here – you don’t need to go home’ because of the fear of getting something wrong on TV or messing up.”

During his time on Strictly Come Dancing, Pete will also return to screens for his second stint on Celebrity SAS. After his early exit in 2022, Pete was invited back to have another go on the show, which was filmed in July last year. Speaking about leaving the show early after his accident Pete confessed he was “gutted” not to see it through and was even more dismayed because the whole ordeal was out of his “control”.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
