Privacy NoticeThe entertainment world was shaken when beloved TV icon Paul O’Grady passed away “unexpectedly but peacefully” at the age of 67 in March 2023. New documents surfaced this week revealed he left behind an astonishing £8.4 million fortune from his bustling television career. The documents revealed that the cherished For The Love of Dogs host amassed significant wealth, cared for by his company Buster Productions, so-named in homage to his darling late dog. These figures were disclosed to Companies House by Pauls confidante and representative Joan Marshrons, 71, as reported by The Sun. It comes just shortly after it was revealed his widower, Andre Portasio, had won a bitter legal battle with neighbours over his bid to turn part of Paul’s £3 million Kent estate into a holiday let.

Some neighbours had ‘accused’ Andre of building a new home ‘by the back door’ saying there was no need for for more holiday lets in the area, Mail Online reported. Although some neighbours insisted Paul himself wouldn’t have approved, others reportedly had written in support of the proposal, and officials at the local council have now given the scheme the go ahead. Since its foundation in 2001, Buster Buster Productions, a heartfelt tribute to his furry companion, became the conduit for Paul’s impressive earnings throughout his lauded career presenting hits like The Paul O’Grady Show, Blind Date, and myriad documentaries. Paul also captivated audiences with hosting gigs on ‘Blankety Blank’, ‘The Big Breakfast’, and through his glamorous alter-ego, Lily Savage, in ‘Lily Live! Company records made public demonstrate just how successful he was, with an income of £1.7 million generated in the year preceding his death. Pauls graciousness extended beyond his life; he left a staggering £15.5 million in his will, ensuring £125,000 for the care of his five beloved pet dogs.

The veteran TV hosts generosity didn’t end there; he donated £500,000 to Battersea Cats and Dogs Home, alongside £775,000 split among various charities that held a place in his heart, such as £50,000 for the Salvation Army and similar amounts for elephant and orangutan rescue causes. A close friend relayed to The Sun in March: “This is typical of Paul as he put his money where his mouth was by leaving cash to charities that had special meaning to him.” “And though £125,000 seems like a lot of money to spend on his dogs, they also meant the world to him and he wanted to ensure they always receive the best love and care.” The bulk of Paul’s estate is anticipated to be inherited by his husband, Andre Portasio, his daughter Sharon Mousley, and his sister Sheila Rudd. Nine other individuals, including Joan and his godchildren, were also named as beneficiaries in his will. Paul passed away on March 28, 2023, at his residence in Kent. His death was attributed to cardiac arrhythmia. Recalling their last day together, his spouse Andre shared at a memorial for the star in October: “We’d had a very ordinary day, just watching TV together at home, when Paul said he wanted to make a ‘cup of tea,’ and that was our little code for rolling a spliff.” “So Paul went to the kitchen to make a cup of tea, brought it back, lit it and started smoking it and that was our last time together, the last thing we did. He passed away there in his chair.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK! MagazineFacebookTwitterCommentMore OnPaul O’Grady
