Privacy NoticeEmma Harrison, a former star of Aussie soap Neighbours, last year revealed she was living in a shipping container. The 50 year old actress first appeared in Erinsborough as Annalise Hartman’s long lost sister Joanna, back in 1995. After her character was written out three years later, Emma pursued a modelling career, gracing the covers of magazines like Playboy, Loaded, Maxim, and FHM. She briefly returned to Neighbours in 2005 before saying goodbye to Ramsay Street for good, although the soap still continues on Amazon Freevee to this day. Fast forward nearly two decades, the former actress leads a very different life – as do Neighbours alumni Rebecca Ritters and Craig McLachlan. Incredibly, Emma was residing in a converted shipping container. And despite its unconventional nature, she was incredibly proud of her sustainable home.

During an appearance on Australia’s The Morning Show, Emma shared: “I have two shipping containers. They are 2.4 meters in width, six meters in length and 2.6 meters high, so they’re high cube shipping containers, they’re pretty spacious.” She added: “They’re separated by a balcony, which is in the middle, so the whole space is about 50 meters square. It’s really fun.” Speaking more about her home, she said: “Well, there’s a lot of focus on sustainability these days, and I feel like, you know, everybody’s got to do their bit because our little bit is part of a much larger bit. “You know, sort of being more minimalistic and not over-consuming was a conscious choice. So it makes us feel so happy that yeah we’re just decreasing our footprint on the planet.”

The actress has certainly changed her lifestyle since her career peak, choosing a quiet life away from fame with her partner Cade and their children. “Those were really fun, exciting days… but at this stage in my life, family and being a mum are more important to me” she remembered. “I did have a fun time overseas and I don’t have any regrets by any means, but everything happens for a reason and that reason ended.” When asked if she would ever show her modelling photos to her kids, Emma replied: “Oh, it’s all hidden away and locked in the cupboards. I probably won’t ever show her to be honest. I don’t display them, let’s just say that.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
