Privacy NoticeNeighbours child star Miranda Fryer, who played Sky Mangel as a toddler in the long-running Australian soap, tragically died in January 2022 at the age of just 34. The former actress passed away at her home in Melbourne in her sleep. She had been known to have experienced heart issues, but no formal cause of death was publicly announced. Her grieving family stated at the time: “True soulmates, Miranda and Arthur (Pothitis) were making plans to start their family, when one day last week she went to sleep and never woke up. We do not know why.” They continued: “She had had some health issues with her heart, maybe her beautiful persona was just too good for this world of ours. We, who all loved her so much, shall treasure the memories she has left us with and mourn our loss forever,” reported the Mirror.

So many friends, so much still to offer this world, gone.” Miranda had joined Neighbours as an adorable toddler at only 18 months old back in 1989 and her character was notably the first child actor to receive a contract on the show. She portrayed Sky over three years alongside her fictional parents Joe Mangel and Kerry Bishop. While the character of Sky made a return in 2003, portrayed by Stephanie McIntosh, Miranda herself had stepped away from acting, pursuing a career in nursing instead. Miranda had recently graduated before she died, and had aspirations to further her education. She was set to join Monash Hospital’s neuroscience department in February 2022 following the completion of her degree amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. A master’s in neuroscience was also on her horizon.

Having tied the knot with Arthur Pothitis back in November 2020, Miranda and her husband had dreams to expand their family. Aside from her academic pursuits, she had a certificate in hospitality and an art diploma to her name. Miranda’s mother, Traci Hunter, opened up to the Herald Sun at the time of her daughter’s death, saying: “She was the most wonderful daughter. She had so much love and passion for life.” Describing her as a beacon of kindness and love, Traci added: “She was a truly kind, loving person, almost too good to be true… Miranda was adored by everyone.” Jan Russ, a Neighbours casting director, expressed her sorrow over the loss, saying: “I feel so very sad to lose one of my cast and especially one so young as Miranda who spent her very young years on the show.” Affectionately treating her cast members like her own children, Jan shared the depth of her loss, stating: “I love them like my own and feel the loss when they pass.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
