EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy has opened up about the guilt she feels over balancing her career and family life. The actress, who is best known for playing Sonia Fowler in the popular soap, admitted in a recent interview that she often feels “guilty” about not being able to spend more time at home. Earlier this year, Natalie announced her departure from EastEnders after portraying Sonia for over three decades, stating she was ready to explore “pastures new”. The actress resides in Hertfordshire with her fiancé, Marc Humphreys, and their two daughters, Eliza and Joanie. When asked how she juggles her personal life with her professional commitments, Natalie stressed the importance of seizing “opportunities” after leaving Albert Square. Speaking to Closer magazine, she confessed: “It’s hard. You feel guilty about not spending more time at home, but you need to take the opportunities when they come along to earn money.” The 41-year-old mum-of-two further added: “You have to accept that not every bit of your life can be perfect all the time. Any time I do have off, I’m at home with Marc and the kids.”

Natalie also shared insights into her social life, revealing she only has a “handful of real friends”, who understand her busy schedule and don’t “get grumpy and make comments” when she’s unable to catch up frequently. Besides her long stint on EastEnders, Natalie has also appeared on the BBC comedy Mandy as Donna Bell in 2020, and has been a guest panellist on ITV’s Loose Women. Natalie, known for her role on EastEnders and her Life with Nat podcast, is also set to host a new Channel 4 show called What’s the Big Deal?.

The programme aims to explore and challenge our shopping habits, particularly during the festive season. Natalie shared: “I get sucked into things, which happens a lot around Christmas. What’s The Big Deal? is designed to prevent these purchases and make people think a bit harder before they buy in a cost of living crisis, and when it’s so easy to click and buy these days, we think it’s an important programme.” In a previous interview with Bella magazine, Natalie confessed that she finds presenting comes “quite naturally” to her and she hopes to continue this line of work in the future. According to the Mirror, this type of work could be more compatible with Natalie’s family life compared to her EastEnders commitments.
