Privacy NoticeEveryone’s favourite couple from the first series of My Mum, Your Dad, Roger Hawes and Janey Smith, looked as happy as ever as they reunited with the show’s host, Davina McCall, on Thursday. The trio were in the capital for a special screening of the first episode of the second series of the dating show, in which single parents are nominated by their grown-up kids for a second chance at love. In the first series, Roger was put forward by his daughter, Jess, after his wife sadly died in 2022. He had one date with another contestant, Caroline, but he soon fell for Janey, who was nominated by her son Will. The pair spent a lot of time together at the retreat where the show was set before sharing a first kiss on their final date. The couple are still together with their children’s blessings, and in July, one year on from the anniversary of their first date, they spoke about their romance on Loose Women.

Roger and Janey attended the launch of the new series of My Mum Your Dad

Roger admitted it was love at first sight for him. “It didn’t show on the show itself but she came in and I obviously liked what I saw straight away. We just hit it off. She just said randomly, ‘What am I like?’ and I said, ‘I know what you’re like.’ Everyone was looking at us and we were off in our own little world.” Loose Women panellist Linda Robson asked the couple how important it was for their kids to approve of their relationship. “Massively,” Janey replied. “WIlliam was a bit more hard work I would say but I think it’s because it’s just been myself and him for 19, 20 years. He’s not lived with anyone. He’s protective over me and seen me get hurt.” In an interview with OK! to celebrate their anniversary, Roger said their relationship had been a “whirlwind.” Single mum Janey added: “I just love having a boyfriend. I get to share things with someone and that’s what I’ve always wanted. It’s taken me a while to get used to it but we’re a team now. Roger will say, ‘You’re not on your own any more,’ but I was so independent, I struggled to ask for help.” Sign up to OK!’s TV newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

Janey and Roger appeared on Loose Women to celebrate their first anniversary together

Roger and Janey are My Mum, Your Dad’s biggest success story so far, and now a group of new single mums and dads could be set to find romance in the second series of ITV’s hit dating series. Paul Mortimer, ITV Director of Reality and Acquisitions said when the second series was announced: “The positive reaction to series one was unprecedented in my experience. From widower Roger finding new love to the grown-up kids cringing in the secret Bunker as their parents dusted down their dating moves, this was a fresh and welcome take on TV matchmaking. I’m so pleased to be able to once again open the retreat to more single parents in 2024.” Meanwhile, Richard Cowles, Managing Director of Lifted Entertainment, added: “The heartfelt reaction to this show was incredible and we are absolutely delighted that ITV are bringing it back for another series. There was real joy in watching the amazing relationships between the grown-up kids and their parents; they cried as their parents’ vulnerabilities showed and cringed as new connections and dates played out. My Mum, Your Dad has heart, warmth and laughs in every show and that really resonated with viewers.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
