Privacy NoticeThe new series of My Mum, Your Dad kicked off on ITV on 16 September, delighting TV fans. A new set of single parents are hoping for a second chance at love at the retreat, with their children watching their every move. A shock twist was introduced at the end of the first episode, with it being revealed a new contestant was getting set to join the retreat. Single dad Chris, 47, has joined the cast alongside his teenage daughter Ava, 17. Chris, who hails from Kingston upon Hull, is a property director and restaurant bar owner, who has been single since splitting from his children’s mother seven years ago. “I met my children’s mum when I was a teenager. We were together for a really long time and separated when I was 40 years old. My dating history has only been since then. I’ve not been in and out of relationships,” Chris revealed ahead of his MMYD debut.

Fans call out ITV’s My Mum, Your dad for mirroring Love Island’s casting choices

The doting dad revealed he watched the first series of MMYD and his children wanted to apply. He said: “I did watch the first series. We then saw it mentioned on TV and social media, my kids said that they were going to apply. I’ve been single since splitting with my kids’ mother so it was an opportunity to meet someone really and a different way of doing it.” Chris describes himself as “fun to be around” and a “good dad”, but has one deal breaker – his children must like the person he’s dating. He added: “I think it’s a really important thing that your kids like the person you’re dating. It’s kids first however much I like that person or not, if they don’t get along with my kids it’s game over for me.”

Ava hopes her dad will find love on the ITV show

The 47 year old won’t tolerate rudeness or lying, and admits he’s tried dating apps but has not had much success, saying: “I’ve tried the apps and whilst it’s never really come to anything, I’m all for them because I know a lot of people who have met their long term partners from dating apps.” Meanwhile, Ava, who is a student, admits signing up for MMYD was “overwhelming”. However, she felt if her dad was going to “grow anywhere, this is the place”. Speaking about her dad’s ideal partner, Ava added: “He definitely needs someone who’s easy going, someone who can make him laugh and doesn’t take themselves seriously. That’s so important for my dad. He needs someone who fits in well with his family and friends. He needs someone who is going to add to his life and improve it.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
