Privacy NoticeStranger Things sensation Millie Bobby Brown is adding yet another string to her bow, collaborating with Netflix to turn her debut novel Nineteen Steps into a major film for the streaming giant. The star released the book in 2023, drawing inspiration from her own family’s history. It explores the story of a teenager living through the 1940s in Britain, wrestling with the trials of wartime existence and the challenges of growing up. Millie is also reportedly gearing up to both star in and produce the cinematic adaptation, reports Deadline. Anthony McCarten, who’s celebrated with four Academy Award nominations will be on board to adapt the screenplay. Meanwhile, Jonathan Eirich has signed on to produce under the banner of Rideback, while Nick Reynolds takes on executive production duties for the same entity.

Millie had previously shared her aspirations to adapt her written work for the screen through her own production company, PCMA, indicating that was always part of the vision. She elaborated on her sentiment, saying: “Yes, definitely [I would adapt it]. That was the intention behind it. Naturally, I just want to create more, so, yes, this is a great foundation,” reports the Express. She recalled the impact her grandmother’s stories had on her as a child, which were told to her when she couldn’t sleep. She confessed: “My nan told me the stories when I couldn’t sleep at night and I think, for a while, and maybe until I was eight, I didn’t think they were real,” only later did she come to realise these tales were true accounts from her nan’s experiences during World War Two. “It’s [Bethnal Green] where my grandmother lived and I went there very frequently for summers and I bought that the other day [sic]. It was amazing just to go back and to reminisce on all that nostalgia, but it’s a really important place to her and to our whole family.

“I’m very gravitated towards things that mean something to me and just more of a woman-centric role. I’m very, very committed to moving people with what I do,” she expressed. Millie is certainly in high demand, as she’s set to return as Eleven in the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, which will hit Netflix next year. In addition to this, she’s also leading the cast of the upcoming sci-fi adventure film, The Electric State, which will also premiere on the streaming platform. The film features an impressive ensemble cast, including Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Jason Alexander, Woody Norman and Martin Klebba. The first four seasons of Stranger Things are available to stream on Netflix now. The fifth season airs in 2025.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
