Michelle Collins, who plays Cindy Beale in EastEnders, has shared a lie that landed her in hot water with the soap’s former producer. The actress found herself in a pickle when she boasted about her motorbike riding skills, only to be asked to demonstrate them on set. Reflecting on her first day of filming, the 62-year-old revealed: “I was very nervous only because I had lied to Julia Smith (the producer) and I told her I could ride a motorbike and I actually couldn’t. As soon as I got onto the set, they presented me with this bike.” Michelle explained that Julia had seen her on a bike in a previous drama, but what she didn’t know was that she’d been “pushed in and out of shot by the prop men”. Speaking to Best Magazine, she confessed: “She could see that I was very nervous and couldn’t ride it properly – I nearly ran Sharon (Letitia Dean) and Michelle (Susan Tully) over!” Reminiscing about the moment she was busted, she added: “Julia came over to me and said: ‘You can’t ride that bike can you? ‘ and I just apologised. She said: ‘Don’t lie to me again!'” Since then, Michelle has redeemed herself with her character being at the heart of numerous storylines, reports Plymouth Live.

She first appeared in Albert Square in 1988 and made several appearances over a decade before her character was presumed dead. In 2023, she made a shock reappearance in Walford, revealing that she had been under witness protection all this while. Since her dramatic return, Cindy has been stirring up quite the storm, including having an affair with her ex-husband George Knight’s (Colin Salmon) son, Junior (Micah Balfour). On Christmas Day, her secret tryst behind Ian Beale’s (Adam Woodyatt) back was laid bare through an audio clip played out to the Queen Vic’s patrons. Left with no place to hide, she was seen aimlessly wandering the square when an unidentified person brutally attacked her with a large metal spade. The scene ended with Cindy sprawled on the ground, seemingly lifeless. Since then, nine potential culprits have been under suspicion, with hints dropped about other characters possibly being the guilty party. The identity of the assailant, which Michelle confesses took her by surprise, will be unveiled during the soap’s special 40th anniversary week.
