Privacy Notice Meghan Markle shared a rare comment about her son, Prince Archie, as she and Prince Harry engaged with school children on their second day touring Colombia. The couple’s first stop on day two in Bogota was at Colegio La Giralda, a renowned local school in the town of Santa Fe. Welcomed by the school’s headmaster Serafin Ordoinez, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with Vice President Francia Marquez, embarked on a brief tour of the school. This included an art session, a visit to a kindergarten class, and even tree planting on the school grounds, where Meghan assisted a five year old student named Manuela in planting a walnut tree. The students also gave the royal couple presents for Harry and Meghan’s children, five year old Archie and three year old Lilibet. These included Colombian-style ponchos, personal letters, and drawings, reports the Mirror. Sign up to OK’s royal newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

The couple’s arrival was celebrated with performances from students who wore traditional Colombian dress and performed cumbia songs with live percussion. While visiting a nursery class, Meghan told a student in Spanish: “You’re the same age as my son Archie.” Harry also practised his Spanish, asking students their names and ages. The royals, accompanied by Colombia’s vice-president Francia Marquez, took a stroll to the school’s nurturing garden. Inaugurated back in 2020, the garden serves as a place where the youngsters can cultivate a sense of gratitude for Mother Earth and recognise the hard work of Colombian farmers. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also explored the school’s dedicated social and emotional wellness area. Here Prince Harry knelt down to glove up and threw some jabs at a punchbag and the students also demonstrated for the couple their own personal meditation techniques.

CEO Diana Basto of the school told The Mirror about the Royal visit: “It was so special for us to have Harry and Meghan come and visit us and the staff and children were all very excited. It was a lovely experience to have them here. They visited various parts of the school including the memorial museum section where they learned about people who have been killed in previous conflicts in Colombia’s history.” She continued: “It was emotional for them and from there to the kindergarten and then finally onto the garden where they helped plant two trees. There was music and dancing as they went around the school and they joined in with the dancing. Then Harry had a go at the punching bag in the gym.” Basto added a touching detail, noting, “Harry and Meghan were super excited when they were given the presents and because the children in the kindergarten are the same age as Archie.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
