Privacy NoticePrince Harry and Meghan Markle made a subtle yet significant change to their son Archie’s birth certificate by removing Meghan’s given names, ‘Rachel Meghan’, in favour of her title ‘Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex’, as reported by the Mirror. Archie was born on May 6, 2019, and his birth was registered 11 days later, with the alteration occurring on June 5. This adjustment has been seen against the backdrop of the speculated rift within the Royal family, particularly between Prince Harry and his brother Prince William, along with their wives. The Sun suggested that this could be perceived as a slight towards the Prince and Princess of Wales, who are currently dealing with Kate’s cancer ordeal, especially since Kate’s personal names are included on her children’s birth certificates.

Some interpret the move as Harry’s attempt to draw parallels between Meghan and his mother, the late Princess Diana, who was commonly referred to as “Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales”, reports the Daily Record. Following the change, Harry and Meghan stepped away from their joint charity work with William and Kate, and not long after, they officially exited their Royal roles, as their departure was widely dubbed ‘Megxit’ by the press. The couple has since moved to the US and expanded their family with the arrival of their daughter, Princess Lilibet, in 2021, who recently turned 3.

Lady Colin Campbell, who discovered the birth certificate amendment, remarked: “It is extraordinary and raises all kinds of questions about what the Sussexes were thinking.” Dickie Arbiter, the Queen’s former press secretary, hinted that these changes could be “an early part of their plan.” Royal expert Ingrid Seward added her thoughts: “For a royal to change a birth certificate is unprecedented but to remove forenames is remarkable. Perhaps this is another sign they were desperate to do something different to the Cambridges.”

The couple’s relationship with the Royal Family seems to remain tense after Harry’s memoir, Spare, was published last year, offering his viewpoint on his relationships with senior members of the Firm, including his father, King Charles, and brother, Prince William. Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, the couple’s two children are now known as Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. During a heartfelt visit to Nigeria, Meghan opened up about her little ones. The couple’s first stop was at the Lightway Academy in Abuja, a school that has benefited from their Archewell Foundation’s generosity. They were greeted by kindergarten children who performed songs and dances, prompting Harry to ask, “Is singing and dancing your favourite class? ” and Meghan quickly added, “That’s Lili’s favourite class, maybe it’s all the jumping around.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
