Privacy NoticeSometimes the grass isn’t always greener, and that could certainly be the case for Meghan Markle. Not only was the now Duchess of Sussex forced to switch careers and quit acting in 2017 when her relationship with Prince Harry became serious – despite playing the role of Rachel Zane in hit US TV-show Suits since 2011 – but her personal life changed dramatically. Meghan gave up her life in Toronto – where she had a host of A-list pals and enjoyed lavish private members clubs -after the pair got engaged. However, according to a source, Meghan has learned the hard way that being a duchess isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. The source said: “Meghan has made no secret of how much she misses her care-free life when she was an actress and while she’d never change what she has with Harry and the kids, there is a big part of her that she wishes she could just get her old life back. “She loved being in Suits and all the opportunities it gave her, she’d get invited to all the exclusive events and get to hang out with Hollywood A-listers but there was so much less scrutiny and attention and there was no pressure on her.”

Meghan also recently began a new friendship with actor and philanthropist Kimberly Williams-Paisley during lunch at a California spot – the same restaurant where Meghan celebrated her 42nd birthday last fall. Kimberly – who is best known for her role in the 1991 romantic comedy Father of the Bride – is the wife of country star Brad Paisley and has lived in Santa Barbara, where Meghan and Harry have lived since summer 2020, for decades. And since her screen debut alongside Diane Keaton and Steve Martin, Kimberly became the co-star of According to Jim for eight years, even directing three episodes herself. She also starred on Nashville, Boston Legal and Two and a Half Men, before going on to publish her memoir in 2016, Where the Light Gets In: Losing My Mother Only to Find Her Again, where she opened up about learning to cope with her mother’s dementia. It’s this friendship along with her career ambition, says our source, that’s making Meghan yearn for her ‘old life’, despite having married her Prince Charming.

They explained: “She’s obviously made so much more money since marrying Harry and moving back to the States and she would never have been able to afford her current lifestyle with her earnings back then. But she was really happy with her life back then and misses it. “Catching up with fellow actresses like Kimberly has also made her realise how much she misses that and she is determined to get back into acting one day.” This isn’t the first time that Meghan has talked about her hope to get back into acting. In fact, just 18 months ago, she told Variety “never said never” when it came to returning to the screen. In the same interview, the 42 year old – who has since co-founded production company Archewell Productions and Archewell Audio with Harry – hinted that she would like to bring about a renaissance for the “rom-com.” She said: “Don’t we miss them? I miss them so much. I’ve probably watched When Harry Met Sally a million times. And all the Julia Roberts rom-coms. We need to see those again.”

Prior to that, in 2018, during the couple’s recent whistle-stop tour of Dublin, Meghan reportedly admitted to a fan that she misses her role on Suits. The star – who was an actress for over 15 years before meeting Harry – has also been no stranger to talking about how she’s had to adjust her life and give up many things since marrying the royal. One example included her blog, The Tig, where Meghan would share insights with her three million followers on her celebrity lifestyle, from yoga to food she liked. However, once she became engaged to Prince Harry she was forced to hand over her Instagram account and shut down her blog. “It was a big adjustment — a huge adjustment to go from that kind of autonomy to a different life,” she told The Cut. Meghan, who shares Archie, five, and three year old Lilibet with Harry, has also spoken out about the overwhelming media attention that comes with being a duchess and how the constant scrutiny reached fever pitch. When talking about picking Archie up from school in the UK, she said she wouldn’t be able to, “without it being a royal photo call with a press pen of 40 people snapping pictures”.

“Sorry, I have a problem with that. That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child.” Then, in 2020 things dramatically changed again for the couple when they announced they’d be stepping down as working royals. Uprooting from the UK to the US meant Meghan and Harry would be seeking a new life away from the limelight. But, according to a source, Meghan is now contemplating the way things have all turned out and just wishes she could go back to how things were before. “She feels the time is right to start looking at offers as she knows she’ll be criticised whatever she does so she can cope with backlash and wants to do what makes her happy,” the source said. “Harry often feels guilty for Meghan having to give up on her dream life and he knows how much she sacrificed to marry him and have a family with him so he will support her no matter what. She has quite a few work commitments coming up but this is just the beginning of Meghan’s big comeback and she’ll be doing things on her terms.” We might be seeing Meghan adding to her acting credentials sooner than we think…Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
