Privacy NoticeMeghan Markle stepped out to give a talk at the grand opening of Godmothers bookstore in California on Saturday night as part of one of her close friend Oprah Winfrey’s book club sessions. The Duchess of Sussex donned a black collared jumpsuit as she spoke to the crowd at the event, which fell on the eve before the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death. While Meghan spoke, her children’s book The Bench and Prince Harry’s controversial memoir Spare were on display in the ‘Hometown heroes’ section of the store – an area which celebrates authors local to the area. Talking in a clip for the store’s Instagram page, the owner says: “So this is our local authors section when you first walk in, and I want it to be when you first walk in so that authors who are local to the area know that this is heir hometown bookstore. And we celebrate our hometown authors as if they were out hometown heroes because to us they are.”

A number of influencers and authors were invited to the launch, which Oprah was also seen speaking at. Author Laura Lynne Jackson shared a snap of Meghan to her Instagram Stories, captioning: “Most light filled evening of speakers”. Meghan has been close friends with Oprah for a number of years, even sitting down with the presenter for a bombshell 85-miniute tell-all interview back in 2021 – where she made a number of controversial claims about her time in the royal family, a year after she and Harry stepped down from the Firm. Making an allegation of racism against the royal family during the interview, Meghan claimed that that royal family members had “conversations with Harry about how dark [son Archie’s] skin might be when he’s born.”

Harry backed up Meghan’s claims when he joined for the latter part of the interview, but refused to share further details about the conversation but said: “At the time it was awkward. I was a bit shocked.” And this event fell on the night before the second anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death. Marking the occasion over in the UK, King Charles and Queen Camilla attended church near Balmoral for prayers and reflection in memory of his mother. The monarch arrived at the tiny granite Crathie Kirk, where the late Queen was a regular, on Royal Deeside for the Sunday morning service. The King has been staying on his Aberdeenshire estate in the Highlands, where the late Queen died peacefully at the age of 96 two years ago. Tributes have been paid to the late Queen on the second anniversary of her passing, with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer sharing a message on social media.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
