Privacy Notice After her public cancer update video earlier this month, Kate Middleton has made an under-the-radar return to work – but she’s also made some very important moves for her future role in the United States. Last week, six months after she first announced the diagnosis and said she’d be stepping down from official royal duties temporarily, she held a meeting at Windsor Castle with some of her Centre for Early Childhood team signalling – albeit quietly – that she’s back. But in an even bigger indicator of what’s to come, it has also emerged that Kate and William have just signed and submitted an important official document to the United States Patent and Trademark Office in preparation for the official launch of their Royal Foundation charity in the US. With the inclusion of “healthcare services relating to mental health” in their trademark application, a source tells OK! that the crossover between the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Foundation and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ’s Archewell Foundation is undeniable, and could lead to something of a Stateside turf war.

“Meghan was quite shocked when she found out that Kate and William plan to do more work in America after trademarking their foundation’s brand with authorities,” they told us. “Although they have made a couple of trips to the US, it’s not really part of their territory and now Meghan feels they could be moving in on her turf.” Kate and William, both 42, submitted the initial trademark application in May last year and according to documents seen by OK!, it included a number of goods and services under the Foundation umbrella including charitable fundraising, educational activities and “Healthcare services relating to mental health”. Meanwhile, Meghan and Harry are powering ahead with their Archewell Foundation, which describes its mission as “show up, do good” and includes initiatives like The Welcome Project, set up last year to support women-led programmes helping refugee women from Afghanistan settle in the US. In a surprising twist, there was also a trademark application submitted in 2012 to register “The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry” – created by the same law firm as Kate and William’s current application – but it was officially cancelled in 2019, a year before Harry left the UK to move to California with Meghan.

It’s not known when the couple might visit again but it is unlikely to be soon as Kate focusses on staying healthy after her chemotherapy so for now, it continues to be very much Harry and Meghan’s stomping ground.

Last week Harry delivered a passionate speech at the Clinton Global Initiative 2024 event, highlighting Archewell’s Parents’ Network, which tackles the dangers of social media to children, and a few days earlier he joined world leaders at the Every Child Protected dinner, hosted by the World Health Organisation, to discuss ending violence against children. Our source says Meghan is “very proud” of her husband now that he seems to be finding his feet in America, but she’s also anxious about what the future might hold. “She feels a bit stuck at the moment,” they claimed. “Harry is really trying to make more of a life for himself and is finally comfortable in America and doesn’t always need Meghan by his side, like he did at the start of their move, and it’s hard for Meghan to take. “But he knows how exciting her new projects are and that everyone will soon get to see her hard work. Meghan is just concerned that her big comeback could coincide with Kate and William’s visit to America and she’s not sure she’s ready for that.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
