Privacy NoticeMcDonald’s and Just Eat have announced they’re partnering together to bring McDelivery into more homes around the UK and Ireland. The fast food giant is already available to order on Uber Eats in limited areas, but it’s likely with the new addition of Just Eat that it means more people will be able to get a Big Mac to their door. McDonald’s is the second exclusive partnership on the delivery platform after they announced a similar partnership with Greggs.

“We are delighted to announce that we have agreed to partner in the UK and Ireland with McDonald’s,” Just Eat’s interim chief executive Peter Duffy told This Is Money. “This partnership, along with our recently announced relationship with Greggs, will require significant investment but will accelerate our growth ambitions and enhance our market position by offering our customers the widest choice available.” Just Eat expanded from teaming up with local delivery partners to bigger name brands like KFC and Burger King, and with McDonald’s on board it could mean the platform’s share worth will rise.

McDonald’s successfully launched McDelivery on Uber Eats back in 2017 to much delight, but recently caused concern when it was reported a driver had delivered a “half-eaten burger” in Scunthorpe. Paul Pomroy, UK &I CEO at McDonald’s, said: “We are delighted that we have agreed to partner with Just Eat as an additional delivery provider in 2020 in the UK and Ireland. “Our McDonald’s delivery service, McDelivery, is a key part of our offer and has proven extremely popular with our customers since its launch in 2017, providing even more convenience and complementing our traditional restaurant and drive- thru business, as well as our My McDonald’s App.
Just Eat have partnered exclusively with McDonald’s for McDelivery
“This does not impact our relationship with Uber Eats who are a valued partner and will continue to offer McDelivery alongside Just Eat when they come on board later in 2020. We have built a hugely successful delivery offer with Uber Eats, which is now available in 950 restaurants, and accounts for just over 10 per cent of our business.” Just Eat are also preparing a £6billion merge deal with Dutch platform Takeaway.com. Greggs signed up to appear on Just Eat’s platform meaning its famous sausage rolls, steak bakes and vegan rolls will be available for home delivery.

So far the bakery firm is set to make deliveries in Bristol and Birmingham and then will continue to expand in London, Newcastle and Glasgow. Any other additional locations will then depend on customer demand with it already proving popular around the country. Managing director of Just Eat UK, Andrew Kenny, said: “Greggs has proved extremely popular with our customers, especially during breakfast, demonstrating that as a nation we love the convenience of getting our favourite food delivered.”

It has not been confirmed yet the exact locations around the UK and Ireland McDonald’s will be available on Just Eat, but it is expected to roll out this year. The news comes just days after McDonald’s announced they were set to sell their signature Big Mac sauce in separate dip pots for a limited time only. From 12 February the dip will be available for customers to purchase for 50p with bosses expecting the item to sell out.
