As the programme kicked off, people learnt that 29-year-old Holly was a mum to two children, one of which she fell pregnant with when she was 16 years old. However, it transpired her groom Alex wasn’t too keen on the idea of marrying someone who already had children. It wasn’t long before people watching took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the pairing as some predicted heartbreak was on the way. One person said: “The experts matching Holly with a man who would rather be with a childless woman is a big no-no! That’s something that can’t be compromised on and should’ve been prioritised in the match-making process.”

Someone else commented: “Why do I feel Holly is going to get hurt again? I hope I’m wrong.” Another wrote: “Don’t have a good long-term feeling about Holly and Alex.” “The experts seem to love taking a risk in matching polar opposites in the hope something good comes from it don’t they?” said someone else. One viewer added: “Now you know the experts are messy for pairing someone who clearly isn’t ready to be a step-parent, with someone with kids.” While another wrote: “Every time Holly is on screen … I just feel bad for her and deeply anxious about how this is going to go.”

However, sparks seemed to be flying when the pair first met as Alex highlighted she was everything that he had asked for. Both were beaming with happiness as they appeared to connect instantly, with Holly calling the match “perfect”. While taking photos together after saying their vows, the 29-year-old decided to tell her new husband about her children.

Although he didn’t react, it was clear Alex wasn’t thrilled as he said to the camera: “It is a bit of a shock that Holly’s got children. I wasn’t expecting it, I don’t know how I really feel about it.” Letting out a huge sigh, Alex said he’ll see what happens as the pair still had their reception to enjoy. Sadly, things took a turn when he spoke to one of Holly’s friends at the top table. Asking how he felt about getting involved with a woman who had kids, Alex confessed he doesn’t have fatherly instincts as he he hasn’t got children of his own. He replied: “It was a preference if they didn’t have kids, but if I fall head over heels for somebody, I’ll overlook all of that and you just love that person.” When her friend explained Alex’s reaction, she was overwhelmed by his response and she started to cry. Confused as to why he wasn’t initially honest with her, she told the camera it was going to be a problem if Alex didn’t want to have children or be around them.
