Privacy NoticeFormer Love Island star Mitchel Taylor has opened up about the dark times he suffered after being faced with false allegations., confessing that he “wanted to kill himself”. The TV star, aged 28, was embroiled in controversy last year when he was accused of disrespecting a homeless person and making homophobic remarks – allegations he firmly denied. The allegations were made after Mitch attended an event with fellow Love Island alum Zachariah Noble, where claims about their behaviour were made by a social media influencer. Mitch was labelled “vile” following the accusations, which led to him and Zach being ejected from the London event.

It was alleged that Mitch threw money at a homeless man who had approached them for help, and made “incredibly homophobic” comments. Despite his strong denial, Mitch acknowledged he was the individual referred to. Now, Mitch has spoken about how deeply the false claims affected his mental health, admitting in a heart-wrenching confession on the Tom’s Talks podcast that he contemplated suicide. Choking back tears, Mitch revealed: “I’ll be honest, I wanted to kill myself”, reports the Mirror. He went on to say, during the emotional podcast interview: “I’ll be honest, I’ve never spoken about it. This time last year I got cancelled for a false accusation and I don’t want to sound like a bad person when I say this but I never took mental health seriously.”

Grateful for personal support, Mitch expressed, “I had no-one. Thankfully I’ve got my friends and a loving family.” He also revealed the financial hit he took when work opportunities stalled due to the controversy. Describing his mental state during this period, he confessed he “couldn’t eat or sleep,” and detailed terrifying harassment he faced when people had sent him photos of his family and his home with threatening messages.

In a heart-wrenching admission, Mitch admitted he had never had “dark thoughts” until that moment and then went onto say: “It absolutely crushed me. The thoughts I had, I wanted to kill myself, seriously, I thought ‘I can’t do it.'”. Mitch previously addressed the allegations including “throwing money at a homeless person” on Instagram. He said: “That is completely false, I didn’t throw any money at a homeless person. It was a kind gesture to give a homeless person money and it has been twisted into an evil act and it’s not true. I was trying to do a kind gesture.” He also refuted claims of being homophobic, as he clarified his awkward encounter with an influencer at an event by stating: “I fancied you when you were straight.” Mitch continued to add that he struggles with words and “can come across as being homophobic” but added that he was just a “fan” of this person. He then apologised and said he was just trying to be respectful but “got it completely wrong”.
