Privacy Notice Laura Anderson has opened up about feeling “hated” after being turned away from an empty restaurant during her holiday in Malaga with her mum Barbara and daughter Bonnie. The 35 year old former Love Island contestant had to fly out a day earlier than planned due to fully booked flights and ended up spending the night at a more budget-friendly hotel near the airport before moving to their upscale resort in central Malaga. Despite looking forward to her Spanish escape, Laura encountered a less-than-warm welcome, speculating that locals might have mistaken them for English fans amidst the tension of the England vs. Spain match in The UEFA European Football Championship which took place on Sunday night (July 14).

With the nation’s hopes pinned on Harry Kane and his squad, many Brits celebrated the event both domestically and overseas, however, were left disappointed when Spain took the trophy after a 2-1 win. Laura took to Instagram to share her experience: “So we arrived in Spain, we’re going to our nice fancy hotel tomorrow. I don’t know if everyone thinks we’re English and hates us because Spain are playing England today. We went to go to a restaurant and there was nobody, I don’t know if this has ever happened to anyone.”

“You walk into a restaurant and it’s like a scene out of a movie, there’s nobody sat there and they go ‘Sorry, we’re full,’ we were like ‘Oh, haha,’ and they’re like ‘No,’ they wouldn’t us in. We went to another and I think because we didn’t speak Spanish, they didn’t like us. Never experienced anything like it in my life. I don’t think Malaga likes Laura, Bonnie and my mum.” England nailed their spot in the finale against Spain due to an eleventh-hour goal whipped up by dark horse Ollie Watkins in a thrilling semi-final on Wednesday against the Netherlands. Three Lion’s skipper Harry Kane christened the scoreboard with the first goal after bagging a penalty. However, it was Watkins who clinched victory with the winning second goal – a massive leap in his career. However, it was heartbreak once again for England fans on Sunday night when Mikel Oyarzabal’s 86th-minute goal clinched a 2-1 victory over England. 2024’s heartbreak came three years after England’s 2021 defeat in the finals against Italy after a nail biting penalty shootout.
