The photo comes as Joey celebrated his birthday a day after he was dumped from the Love Island villa, just before the final. The cheeky chappy from Essex returned to our screens this summer when he stepped into the Love Island villa as a surprising bombshell. He quickly made his mark and sparked up connections with Harriett Blackmore, Samantha Kenny, and his ex Grace Jackson, before meeting his match with Jessy Potts. Things appeared to be going well for Joey and Jessy before they were dumped from the villa by their former islanders, just a day before the grand finale. But it wasn’t all doom and gloom as Joey had a birthday to look forward to on Monday, 29 July as he turned 34 years old.

To mark the occasion, his good pal and former TOWIE co-star James ‘Arg’ Argent took to Instagram to share a sweet throwback snap. The Essex pair looked miles away from where they are today, instead boasting baby faces and sweeping side fringes. They looked unrecognisable as they looked into the camera, Joey sporting a small smile and a red checked shirt while Arg remained tight-lipped in a white polo. Sharing the snap on his Instagram story Arg added the caption: “Happy Birthday @joeyessex Love ya mate” along with a love heart emoji. He also revealed when the photo was taken and added: “Marbella 09”, with a laughing face emoji. Joey is yet to return to Instagram following his exit from the Love Island villa with Jessy.

After Reuben chose Joey and Jessy as the least compatible, the reality TV star accused him of being “jealous”. The exchange left fans taking to social media to speculate that they had caught a glimpse of Joey’s authentic persona. On Reddit, one viewer wrote: “His act slipped with how he spoke to Reuben, was so bad!” Another added: “He really showed his true colours in that moment.”
