This twist in Shaq and Tanya’s tale comes not long after the couple were thought to be taking the next jump into engagement territory while on a dreamy getaway to Tanzania earlier this year.

During their lavish getaway, Shaq pulled out all the stops for Tanya’s birthday, arranging a romantic candlelit beach dinner at sunset. Fans were quick to speculate that the grand gesture was a proposal, but Shaq clarified in his post caption: “This is just her birthday imagine when I propose. Thank you for helping me in making my baby’s birthday one to remember.” The couple enjoyed a luxurious four-course meal, including lobster, before staff brought over a sparkler-adorned birthday cake. Despite Shaq’s hint that an engagement would be even more extravagant, fans couldn’t help but think he was about to pop the question.
