Privacy Notice Viewers of Lorraine were left in stitches this morning as Christine Lampard made a spectacular gaffe live on air with team GB star Adam Peaty. The first item on show saw Christine, who is standing in for Lorraine Kelly while she takes her summer break, go live to Olympics swimming champion Adam in Paris. As she opened her interview, Adam stayed silent and seemed rather slumped back in his chair. At one point as Christine continued to talk, he seemed even more disinterested as he looked off camera. While Adam may have initially appeared a little rude, viewers were quick to realise what was happening – Adam couldn’t hear Christine, but she had no idea so was carrying on regardless with her interview.

It was only when Adam let out a yawn that Christine realised that a guest was unlikely to be that rude on live TV. “Oh, he maybe can’t hear us!” she exclaimed when the penny finally dropped. When the pair finally linked up a few minutes later, Christine made sure she was taking no chance on her second attempt at the interview. “Can you heart me this time around.?” she checked. “Good morning” said Adam to confirm all was well, before sheepishly confessing, “I hope you didn’t see me yawning!” But viewers did and they took to social media to express their amusement at the telly gaffe. “You could tell just by looking at Adam’s face that he couldn’t hear. Christine clueless,” posted one with a series of laughing emojis. Another made a cheeky swipe at Adam letting out his yawn. “Ha haaaa, Adam Peaty reacting the same as the Lorraine viewers,” they quipped. In the interview, Adam went on speak about his roller-coaster ride at the Olympics so far after contracting Covid then going on to win a silver medal.

Adam made a heartfelt confession when Christine told her how she was touched by his emotional reaction to seeing his three-year-old son George in the crowd after he was awarded his medal. “I’m a very emotional person, and I perform with my emotions as well…” he said before adding. “I know how much of a sacrifice I’ve had to make to get these results and not seeing him for long period of time because of training in different time zones “I hope I’m a good role model for him,” he added. Christine finished the interview by asking if he had any advice for any of his fellow Olympians who may be signing up for Strictly Come Dancing this year, Adam having taken part in the 2021 series. “It’s a lot harder then everyone thinks,” he said. “As soon as I was in there… you’re in the trenches, mate! So good luck, graft hard and keep going.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
