More infoJoin us on WhatsApp Go Compare star Wynne Evans has been at the centre of controversy following his departure from the Strictly Come Dancing tour, and now Lorraine Kelly has shared her thoughts on the matter. Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday 29 January, Lorraine agreed with host Susanna Reid that Wynne Evans needs to take time out to focus on his mental health. She then expressed her bewilderment at his actions, saying: “He has to think about what he has done, I don’t get it, I don’t understand it, I don’t know why you would think that was acceptable – what kind of nutter does that when you are being filmed? It’s bad enough to think it but then to actually say it!” Wynne Evans was caught on camera making lewd comments during a photo call for the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour in Birmingham. He has since apologised for his remark and left the live tour.

The incident involved him making a suggestive comment to tour host Janette Manrara, as he sang: “Go Compare,” followed by: “Not too close to Jamie [Borthwick].” He then used a derogatory term to describe a lewd sexual act. Later that morning on her show Lorraine, Lorraine Kelly revisited the topic, mentioning that Wynne had received supportive messages from fans and his professional dance partner Katya Jones. She acknowledged that “he is getting support” and noted, “He has apologised,” reports the Mirror. Lorraine didn’t mince her words when she declared: “He’s been a complete clown! Now he has to go away and think about what he did.”

She sympathised with his struggles, though: “He’s talked about having mental health problems, and nobody wants that, nobody wants him to be in a very dark place. Have a wee bit of time, take a bit of space and then come back.” Lorraine is convinced the nation has a big heart, adding, “The British public are forgiving, you know, if you say sorry and you mean it. His older brother Hugh passed away at the start of the month, and he spoke about how that affected him and life on the road as well so it has all been difficult for him,” she added. Wynne announced his departure from the Strictly tour on Tuesday. Speaking out, he stated: “I’ve agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.” Expressing regret, Wynne added: “I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection. Apologies to those I won’t get to see at the remaining performances and I’m grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me.”
