Nadia Sawalha has bravely spoken up about struggling with anxiety and dealing with a persistent inner “darkness” since her younger years. Opening up on the Loose Women podcast alongside Christine Lampard, Nadia Sawalha, renowned actor and TV personality, candidly shared her challenges with confronting deep-seated emotions. She reflected on how she has always tended to distract herself rather than facing her feelings head-on. Nadia, who recently turned 60, candidly expressed: “I’m not very good at sitting with my feelings. I will distract all the time rather than feel them, because if you can sit and feel with them you can work them out and then you’re rid of them a bit.” She delved deeper into her emotional journey, saying: “Like a darkness is in me from a child that I don’t know what it is. I’ve always been fascinated by the human condition, I was an actress.”

Nadia continued to explore the nuances of her personality and coping mechanisms: “I always want to know other people’s stories, that’s my hobby, that’s my interest, that’s my everything is other people’s stories. “So, where that originally comes from, I don’t want to not be like that, but where that probably originally comes from is distracting, distracting from what it is. It’s kind of anxiety. As I get older, I find that I accept these quirks of mine.” The emotional revelation wasn’t the only profound moment for Nadia during the episode; she also received heartfelt affirmations from her loving husband Mark Adderley and Maddie, her 21-year-old daughter, contributing to a philosophical and deeply personal discussion. Maddie stated: “I love you so much and I just want you to know how grateful I am to have somebody like you in my life, let alone as my mother. “I am so thankful for all the hugs, all the advice, all the times that you’ve been there for me and supported me. All the times you’ve told me the truth even when I’ve been not wanting to hear it.

“I just really want you to feel how loved you are today. You are an amazing woman and I hope to be a quarter of the woman you are when I fully grow up. “You inspire me every single day and I just hope you see how truly incredible you really are. I just love you so much and just have a beautiful birthday and yeah, I love you.” Overwhelmed by her child’s heartfelt words, Nadia burst into tears, saying: “That was really beautiful, thank you – there’s no better present in the world. Maddie was born on Christmas Day, so this is the ultimate gift. To hear that, with all the worries we have as parents, that is very beautiful.”
