Privacy NoticeLoose Women presenter Myleene Klass broke down in floods of tears on live TV over a devastating announcement. The 46 year old was presenting the popular daytime show on Wednesday, 21 August, when it opened with news of TV and radio star Lauren Laverne’s cancer diagnosis. Lauren, also 46, is best known for hosting Desert Island Discs. She revealed her diagnosis on Instagram today, saying: “I recently had a cancer diagnosis. It was (thank God) caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test and I am expected to make a full recovery.”

At the start of Loose Women, Myleene’s co-host Coleen Nolan discussed about Lauren’s sad news, before turning to Myleene, who is a close friend of Lauren’s. She said: “Myleene, I know Lauren is very close to your heart, so…” Myleene – who is godmother to Lauren’s children – was unable to contain her emotions, as her voice faltered and she looked at the floor. She said: “Yeah, so, she’s my bestie…” Temporarily unable to speak, tears rolled down her face as she dabbed at her eyes with a tissue, explaining how difficult Lauren’s situation was for her to talk about. She then joked: “She’s going to tell me off,” before struggling again. As video footage of Lauren was played in the studio, Myleene sobbed even more, explaining how hard it was for her to look at. She continued: “This is so Lauren, that she uses her platform, even in her times of vulnerability, to help others.” Lauren, who is also known for guest-hosting The One Show alongside Alex Jones, added to her Instagram announcement, saying: “To my family and friends who have been absolutely extraordinary every step of the way – I am so very grateful and love you so much. And of course thank you to my colleagues…. for their support and for giving me the time off that I need to get better.”

She ended the post by urging people to go for cancer checks. She added: “I also want to say that if you’re avoiding a test or putting off an appointment to get yourself checked out please, please do it today. Half of us will get cancer at some point, and if you do, finding out asap is everything. “It’s usually my job to bring the good vibes on air but any you have to spare are very much welcome here. Sending loads of love to anyone in a similar boat, or who has made it back to shore.” The Sunderland-born DJ is married to television producer Graeme Fisher, with the couple sharing sons Fergus, 16, and Mack, 13. They tied the knot back in 2005 and will be celebrating their 20th anniversary next year. Speaking to OK! back in 2022, Lauren said: “My son loves making things.
