Privacy Notice Gloria Hunniford’s husband Stephen Way, has tragically passed away at the age of 85, the family have announced. Stephen was married to the popular Loose Women star since 1998 and sadly lost his life following what the statement described as a “heroic fight” with an illness, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and love. The family’s touching statement expressed their profound sorrow: “It is with huge sadness and very heavy hearts that we share the passing of Stephen Way, Gloria’s beloved husband, who lost his battle yesterday afternoon. Stephen had been heroically fighting his illness… but always with great tenacity and a positive spirit.”

Gloria, 84, fondly remembered her husband by saying: “Stephen was a gentleman and a giant of a man, who will leave the most enormous void not only in my life, but our entire family. He was an incredibly kind, generous, and caring man, with a delightfully quirky sense of humour, which remained till the end. We had a tremendously happy 25-year marriage and did so many beautiful and exciting things together that I will always cherish.” Gloria honoured Stephen’s role in the family, saying, “He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather,” and shared her immense grief with: “It’s a great shock and words cannot express my sadness at this time. A bright shining light has dimmed, and he shall be missed at every turn,” she concluded. The Loose Women star opened up last year about the health struggles faced by her husband, who tragically lost partial vision in his right eye after a second stroke. She has been vocal in her gratitude towards the NHS for their life-saving efforts when he was involved in a taxi accident in 2019 that fractured the base of his spine.

Stephen’s health journey had been a challenging one, with a heart attack in 2004 and his first stroke in 2012. Gloria recounted the harrowing moment Stephen experienced his stroke, saying: “He said something about the garden to me, he told me there was something the matter with his left arm and said it was like cotton wool and he had no control over it.” During tough times, Stephen had been a pillar of strength for Gloria, especially after the heart breaking loss of her daughter Caron to breast cancer at the age of 41 in 2004.
