Privacy Notice Soap enthusiasts did a double take when Denise Welch emerged following a hair transformation on Loose Women today, with fans saying she looked the spitting image of EastEnders icon Sharon Watts. Sharon, portrayed by Letitia Dean, is a stalwart of the BBC soap, having graced Albert Square since the soap began in 1985, cementing her status as one of the show’s most enduring faces. Her trademark blonde tresses are synonymous with her character, and viewers were in for a surprise on Tuesday, July 23, when Denise, 66, unveiled a new ‘do that bore an uncanny resemblance to Sharon’s classic look. Before the show’s commercial break, host Ruth Langsford sent Denise away, telling viewers that a dramatic makeover was in store for the panellist following a discussion about the challenges of hair thinning for older women – a topic Denise had chimed in on, expressing her belief that long hair didn’t always suit older women.

Post-break, Denise returned to set, flaunting longer blonde locks complete with a fringe, prompting immediate recognition from the audience that it was a wig. However, the resemblance to Letitia Dean’s Sharon sent fans straight to social media to voice their amazement, with tweets pouring in comparing the two. One fan commented: “You look like Sharon Watts Denise”, accompanied by a mix of crying and laughing emojis, reports the Mirror. Another said: “I thought she was Sharon off eastenders”, while another wrote: “Sharon Mitchell.” Another subtly reacted with a post tagging the Loose Women team and a GIF of the Albert Square legend, while another TV watcher quipped: “Sharon Watts has aged.”

On the same instalment of Loose Women, fans spotted what seemed to be a slight from host Ruth Langsford towards estranged husband Eamonn Holmes. The panel was discussing the sentimental value of friendship bracelets and gifts from loved ones when Ruth chimed in with her take. Ruth shared: “I think any gift from a friend is a special gift, anything that a friend gives you. When someone says friendship bracelet I don’t think of a beautiful silver bracelet, I think of a bit of cotton that a kid has made for you.

“I don’t have grandchildren, I hope I will one day, but I can imagine that. If a grandchild or something has made me something I would feel the need to wear it.” Viewers were quick to point out that Ruth actually has step-grandchildren through her estranged husband Eamonn, reports the Mirror. A viewer pointed out on Twitter: “#Loosewomen I thought you had a granddaughter Ruth.”

In response, another tweeted: “They’re Eamonn’s grandkids. I bet she doesn’t see them now.” Another added their voice saying: “In the 14 years Eamon and Ruth were together, Her stepson Declan had two children. She would have known them… Her step-grandchildren. Now, she says she has no grandchildren. Ouch.” Someone else remarked: “Exactly, I thought that was a bit disrespectful of her to say that”. Earlier this year, Eamonn and Ruth revealed their decision to part ways after 14 years of marriage.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
