‘I tried the Amazon-bestselling lip stain in red and it’s perfect for Christmas’ (Image: OK!)As the festive season is fast approaching and Halloween is just a hop, skip and a jump away, I’ve been on the hunt for that perfect red lip that won’t smudge or vanish after one sip of your favourite cocktail. Following my previous trial of the viral Wonderskin lip stain, I was curious to see if their more vibrant shades could match up to the more subdued colour I chose last time. And, once again, I’m thoroughly impressed. If you’re prepping for your office Christmas do, or in search of a bold lippy to complete your Halloween get-up this October, then this Amazon find is just the ticket. This lip stain truly does have staying power, making it the perfect makeup pick for your trick-or-treating adventures or a cheeky mistletoe kiss. The Amazon best-selling Wonderskin Lip Stain in shade Divine is perfect for Christmas

Currently available on Amazon for £18, this top-seller offers a broad spectrum of shades to choose from. In my previous Wonderskin review, I went with my trusty shade Lovely, but this time around I decided on a more festive-ready hue, the burgundy-red Divine. That being said, I tend to gravitate towards cool-toned and darker shades, so if you’re more into warmer tones, there’s a plethora of brighter, cherry reds to select from, reports the Mirror. Now, as with most lipsticks, but particularly lip tints and stains, it’s advisable to exfoliate or at least use a lip mask before application. With the chilly weather, my lips tend to be drier and with a potent pigment like this one, I noticed the darker shade adhered to the cracked skin – not ideal – so pamper your pout before you start staining, I opted for a scrub and mask. The lip stain comes with a doe foot applicator, and the hue of the liquid can be quite intimidating initially, but believe me – don’t be deterred. When you first uncork the tube, it emerges as a blue/purple metallic colour, and I won’t lie, the first time I sampled Wonderskin I was slightly apprehensive about what the result would be if the blue didn’t wash off. But I took the leap then and, after getting more acquainted with this product, I’ve discovered that applying it is a cinch. Being someone with naturally pale lips, I was curious to see what kind of difference this dark shade would make. The applicator is somewhat larger than most of my liquid lipsticks, so when I first tried to apply this stain, it required a lot of focus to manoeuvre it around my lips without smearing the stain all over my face. As I mentioned, I’ve had ample practice since then, but due to the size of the applicator, it still necessitates a nimble hand in tricky areas like the lipline or corners. If you accidentally get the stain somewhere it’s not supposed to be, don’t fret – it wipes off easily if you’re quick. I found a makeup wipe did the trick for any mishaps. However, as with most red lipsticks, precision is key with this shade unless you fancy red streaks all over your face. The instructions suggest leaving the stain on for at least 30 seconds, but in my experience, there’s some wiggle room. For my first application, I left it on for a full minute as I was after a deep colour. If you’re just looking for a subtle hint of red to complement your festive outfit, 20-30 seconds should do. And if the colour isn’t as bold as you’d like, simply apply another layer to intensify the pigment. Curious to see how dark I could go, I applied a second coat and left it on for another minute.

According to the ads I’ve seen, once the mask has dried, you can try peeling off the blue cast. I found this a bit tricky – if you talk or move your mouth once it’s dry, it tends to crack and doesn’t always come off in one piece. But it’s a breeze to remove with a makeup wipe or damp cloth, just be gentle if you’re wearing foundation. One thing I noticed with this shade, unlike the Lovely one, is that my fingers were slightly stained red from removing the blue. So, if you opt for a red hue, you might need to exercise a little more caution than with the nude shades. Opting out of using a lip liner with the Wonderskin stain, though totally doable, I went for simplicity. But, one Amazon user shared how they loved and completed their lip-stained look, writing: “Was sceptical about this but it is so good. I add a bit of lip liner and Carmex to finish but this lasts all day with meals. Smudge-proof, gorgeous colour and does not dry out lips.” Finishing my look with nothing but a swipe of clear balm, I was in awe at how the colour clung on through a meal out with the fam. Even after hours of chit-chat and cheeky sips, my lips were unfazed, boasting the same rich hue without a smudge in sight – a true feat for any red lippies. It’s no wonder Wonderskin’s stain is creating a buzz; durability is its middle name, keeping its vibrant appearance from dusk till dawn – literally!

Loads of admirers, from family to absolute strangers, didn’t hold back compliments for the stunning tint and its stick-like-glue magic. And shoppers who are fans of this icon have also been quick to leave their gushing praise, saying “I still can’t get over how much I love this product” and another devotee exclaims after stocking up, “love this product so much that I bought other colours right away.” Due to its popularity, the lip stain’s stock is not always available in every colour depending on where you buy it from, and at the time of writing some shades are no longer available on Amazon. So if you want to get your hands on one of your preferred hues, I’d run before they sell out. If you do miss out on bagging my new go-to colour, Divine, alternative shades like Hayley and Playful are sure to do the trick, offering a similar bold Christmas-ready red, and you can easily layer them for a darker pigment if that’s your desire. This lip stain is my new makeup go-to for the coming holiday period – and I know I’ll be ditching my old red lippies this Christmas, now that I have this best-selling lip stain in my beauty bag. The Divine shade is up for grabs on the Wonderskin website and Beauty Bay for £18.
