The real toll Strictly training takes on stars’ skin, explained by an expert (Image: BBC)Strictly Come Dancing is back on our screens, and we’re all buzzing for the first show this weekend. While the glitzy dresses and perfect makeup may seem effortless, the reality behind the scenes is a lot more demanding. The celebs (and pro dancers) often face punishing schedules, with up to 12 hours of rehearsals a week for just a single 2-minute routine. Some pros even train up to 6 hours a day for weeks at a stretch. This intense physical effort, coupled with layers of make-up, can wreak havoc on their skin. So if you’re curious about the real impact that being involved in the BBC show has on their complexions, we’ve got all the details. The effect of sweat and makeup on skin health

While it’s necessary for the Strictly cast to wear makeup during performances, the stars would be better off avoiding it during rehearsals. “Make-up can clog pores, and when combined with sweat, it exacerbates the issue, leading to acne, dry skin, and uneven texture due to trapped impurities,” explains aesthetics expert Rupesh Shah, founder of London Lip Clinic. “The foundation can strip the skin of natural oils, causing dryness and irritation. Reducing make-up usage during training sessions can significantly benefit the skin’s health.” We wonder if 2024 contestant Tasha Ghouri is already noticing some of the effects on her skin. Earlier this week, the former Love Island star took to Instagram to show how she was ‘dripping in sweat’ after a day of training. How to minimise unsightly effects When you’re working up a sweat, it’s crucial to keep your skin clear of make-up. “This build-up often results in breakouts like whiteheads, pimples, and blackheads. For those with acne-prone skin, it’s especially important to cleanse the face right after training to help prevent further breakouts,” Rupesh shares. Here’s how to keep your skin looking its best post-dance session, reports the Mirror. 1.
