Step through the Taj 51 hotel’s opulent lobby, across its stunning flower-filled courtyard and down a flight of steps and you are welcomed into Jiva Spa’s cavern of calm, an underground grotto with dark tiles, atmospheric low lighting and a dreamy scent of essential oils filling the corridors. Available to hotel guests and those who have booked a treatment, facilities include a sauna, steam room, large jet-powered vitality pool and comfy relaxation area – the space is small and intimate but never feels crowded. Jiva’s treatments take an Ayurvedic approach, inspired by Indian holistic practices. The full body massages are of the highest quality (ask for a therapist named Deto), and include lots of attention to detail like a foot bath, hot towels and stones, and a face massage to finish. For an extra-special moment of pampering, try one of the signature experiences, which combine a number of different therapies into one blissful two-hour treatment. Recently refurbished, this cool creative hotel celebrates art and interior design, with a lobby that’s full of funky shapes, coffee table books and photography exhibitions. Downstairs, the spa now boasts a stylish pool area, steam room, sauna and candlelit corridors leading to treatment rooms.
